dvd driver

hello, i have a compaq sd-612b went to driverguide and some other sites keeps putting me to same site driversguide and cant seem to get that file to work for me, and theres lots of reviews on that file cdr4_2k that it dont work with xp, can anyone point me into the right place for that driver,that file i have now wont even let me use it

You shouldn't need a driver for the device to be recognized within Windows, paticularly WinXP. Did the system pick up the drive when you initially installed the OS?

its showing that the drives there but wont play dvds or cds keeps telling me to insert a disc, worked before i put sp2 in.

A driver is not what you need but the DVD itself may need a firmware upgrade for XP to recognise it (if Compaq does not have a firmware update for it then you'll need a new DVD).

can anyone point me in the right direction for filmware keep getting one that has bad reviews starting to pull all my hair out hehe
