  • geforce 3 500

    fan went out on my geforce 3 500 video card. called them up and they sent me new fan and heat sink. my question is should i buy some thermal paste to put on between the heatsink and the chip

      Most definitely! Since the GPU isn't perfectly flat (and likely the HSF they sent isn't either), you'll want a good Thermal Interface Material to take care of the duties of giving you the best transfer of heat possible. Even if you don't plan on overclocking, the efficient cooling should be a concern. Arctic Silver III and Evergreen's TherMagic are both very worthy products to use. Also, keep an eye out in the near future for more word from the Nanotherm folks. I am in the middle of testing some of their new goop and results have always been promising in the past. We'll be posting the results as soon as I have all data in place. ;)
