    Anyone using this cooling device?

I am pretty new to the computer build, so I was wondering if the device is controlled by the motherboard bio, or is there a specific driver or program that I need to download for the device to work? I noticed that this particular device has a hand control thing that you can manually speed it up and down, but am not sure what is the purpose on that. Shouldn't the speed of the fan be dictated by the CPU temp? So why do I need to manually tweak it?

Any suggestion will be great. I am also looking for a program that is good for monitor the temp and fan speed.

    Thank you.

It might have 3 settings quiet/normal/loud? Idk,it should work with CPU temp too, your mb programs should tell you CPU fan speed, coretemp or realtemp will tell you your CPU core temperatures

Re: CoolerMaster V8 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan

The fan is controlled by "Smart Fan Controll" in Bio under Computer health and status. I think I can do "Disable" (meaning run at 100% speed full time), "Enable" (speed depended on CPU temp), and "Manual" (no idea, I think by just using the knob? or does this free up the slope option..). I think the CPU temp is around 38-42, and Core temp are around 36-38 when idle. There is also a "Smart Fan Mode" in the Bio but I forgot what are the options. I will double check later today.

      Thank you.

What mb you using it on? You might be able to set to auto and then control the speed with the monitoring software that's bundled with your mb,temps look fine anyway, under 100% load you want cores to remain 80c or under

Re: CoolerMaster V8 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan

            Ahh an old thred :)

The V8 has a pwm controlled fan.. in most respects its like any 4 pin fan (with red leds).
The published specs of the V8 and its max speed of 1800 rpm are with the built in pci slot fan controller at its minimum setting.
Think of the hard wired controller(1-100% dialled pot) as a turbo cooler .
At low cpu temps it doesnt make much difference if the fan is running at 900 or 1050 rom either to noise or temps. You cant really hear the fan until it hits 1400 rpm +.
On hi overclocks the adjuster turned to the max will allow the fan to go to 2100 rom if the pwm demands "battle speed hortator".

On benchmarking I found I needed the adjuster at max(2100rpm). Most of the time I just left it at about 2/3..

On my p67 ,even tho the board has drilled holes for a 775 cooler, I found the V8 wouldnt fit due to the proximity of some components.
To cut it short: The V8 fan is now on my zalman cooler in a push pull configuration with a scythe fan. The V8 fan is push..

My configuration on the asrock board means the fans are speed limited until cpu reaches over 60C,which it doesnt do at 4.8 unless benching but the adjuster is usefull to exactly match fan speed with my scythe fan.

The V8 "unit" is still in its original 775 mbrd with a low noise temp controlled 120 fan.

The Zalmann cooler doesnt look as "cool" as the V8,but my p67 case doesnt have a perspex window !.
