Sorry that no one answered this sooner.
Simply put the MCP is likely your North bridge temperature. It is where I would consider adding direct cooling. 55 degrees was sort of the unwritten rule from what I can recall. IF its stable I wouldn't worry so much about that exact #, but still I would look to actively cool the NB, to aid in longevity of the components.

Thanks for the reply Chad. The chip comes as standard with a large finned heat sink attached, and there appears no way of removing it and fitting a fan cooler without damaging the chip itself.
Since my original post, i wound back the CPU frequency to the original 2.8GHz, and the chip temperature still hovers around the 54 degree mark, so I guess that there is no major concern by ASROCK in this regard.
