  • Q9550 @ 4+Ghz?

I am looking for different cooler options that anyone has tried that will let me push my system past the 4Ghz mark. I have had it there the temps are just too high. I am open to air and water options, i just want some opinions of others that have already done this and there results?

Thanks for your help and time.

For Q9550 4ghz my test with IBT temp high is 64-66c with FM121 2400rpm, 4.2ghz FSB 495 max temp IBT was 76c with coolermaster fan 2000rpm but FSB 500 max IBT temp was 78c with FM 121 .... i use prolimatech megahalems rev.B, for 4.4ghz i think IBT will increase up to 80+ so perhaps i will use other stressing like OCCT maybe :)

What is your current case and head sink?

A good dust cleaning should send it back a couple degrees, depending how dusty it is. Sometimes just re-applying thermal paste if it is old could put the temp down 3-5 degrees. Do some maintenance and all the little things add up.

oh I just realised you have an antec 900, I used to have one have you tried putting some of the fan speeds up? Just focus on the top and back one, dw about the front ones. If it isn't enough then have a go at the side one if you have to. The 900 is a VERY good case with exceptional cooling and air flow, shouldn't have very high temps.

Hmm its been awhile since I upgraded my rig :) now I use i5 2500k. Btw Thermalright Archon is really good one, you should try it, with TY140 it does perform great, if I use Vortex Aluminium 14cm it would be better temp result :) Before Archon I use NH-D14 with FM121 as intake, noctua's performance better then Archon but if I use faster fan like Vortex aluminium 14cm for Archon it would be close enough or better then NH-D14+FM121.

              Re: Q9550 @ 4+Ghz?

I know I am late to the party here, but I would think most of the coolers listed will keep that processor in check, but when I took my 9550 that high for 24/7 usage I had to go to water to ease my mind from the outrageous temperatures I was getting. Mine may have been special, but once I passed 3.6GHz it turned in to an incrementally hotter furnace. By the statement of water, I don't mean an AIO like Corsair or Antec, I mean a custom loop.
