  • Core2 Duo Overheating

    Building a new computer.

    Core2 Duo E6750 Conroe
    Gigabyte P35C-DS3R
    4 g RAM
    Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 112D

CPU stays at 60 C idle, monitored by Speedfan 4.33
Temp rises to 100 C in less than 30 secs while decrypting DVD.
Temp drops immediately from 100 after decrypting stopped.

    Room temp about 72 F.

    Both MB and CPU new.

Temp seems high even on every day task but apparently rises with CPU load.

    Reseated CPU with thermal paste.

I do not have another motherboard compatible with the CPU.

    Any help appreciated.

If the temperatures and changing that quickly, then it sounds as if you do not have the HSF properly seated.

agreed, check the push pin connectors, they're notorious at not securing properly/ coming loose.

        Thanks, guys.

I did find one pin not locked, and now the temp hangs around 55 C with CPU utilization at about 68 %.
