  • 80mm cpu fan

I'm sure this has been asked many times before but here goes again. I found an old cpu fan adapter that allows me to replace my current stock AMD 60mm fan with the adapter and convert to an 80mm case cooling fan for my 1800+ with stock heatsink. Is there any use in installing the adapter and using the 80mm case fan on my heatsink? Will it lower my cpu temp at all? My current cpu temp is around 43C to 49C. Have any of you tried this?

If you're talking about one of those funnel shaped adapters, you will maybe get a small improvement and very possibly a worse result. While the larger fan likely pushed more air, the funnel shape of these adapters cause a large amount of turbulence in the funnel area... which also happens to be exactly where you need a smooth airflow to blow down onto the heatsink. You would be much better off getting a sink that is designed to be used with an 80mm fan since it will make better use of the added airflow without the turbulence.
