  • Northbridge Cooling

    Hi People,

I like to know if it's essential to have a fan on the northbridge (I don't overclock)? I own a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro, and recently the northbridge fan (with fansink still in place) has been so noisey, I've had to remove it. This noise always starts when I do a cold boot, but after 10 seconds or so, the noise goes away.

    Thanks

as long as theres a decent heatsink in place then a fan is not really nessesary

Thanks for your reply. In the message, where I said fansink. I meant heatsink. Sorry for the typo.

Can the heatsink you mentioned be just the one that came with the motherboard? Or do I need to purchase a Zalman chipset heatsink for e.g?

      Thanks.

it depends on the size of the heatsink. can you get a picture of it?
also the airflow through the case would be important
