  • Pics of My New System

    I just moved my main system into this Antec SX1240 case. I bought this case on ebay for $102.73 US including shipping. It came with a 400W Antec power supply, which made the deal sweet. I was very pleased with this purchase.

    I put this system together and I did a bit of customizing. I call this system "The Patriot" cause I put a little case badge of an American flag on it and it light up blue in the front and shines red out the side a bit because of the motherboard readout. Also, Patriot is a cool Quake III character! I plan on modding the case with some graphics soon, and I'll post before and after pics of it.

    Here are the specs and pics:

    1400MHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird
    512 MB Kingston DDR RAM
    ePox 8KHA Motherboard
    LeadTek WinFast Geforce3 TI 200
    80 GB Western Digital Caviar w/8MB Buffer
    40 GB Western Digital Caviar
    ASUS 8X DVD Drive
    LiteOn 48x12x48x CD Burner
    Sound Blaster Live! 5.1
    Netgear FA311 Ethernet
    3 Antec Blue LED 80mm Case Fans
    2 Antec 80mm Case Fans
    Enermax 350w Power Supply
    HP Keyboard
    Microsoft 5 Button Mouse
    Samsung Syncmaster 950p 19" Monitor

    <img border="0" src="http://studentwebs.winona.edu/cablomqu6772/computers/grill.JPG" width="439" height="600">

    The grill is backlit with 3 Antec LED fans and the Power and HDD LEDs are also custom. I bought the fans and the LEDs from Directron.com. I know that fans is not the most elaborate way to light up a case, neon and cathodes seem to be the modders weapon of choice, but I find that these get the job done while keeping the inside of the case clean.

    I should make note that for this photo to turn out my friend Brendan had to set the exposure time really high. It picked up a few flaws in the lense which I edited out in photoshop by blurring the photo a bit. They were simply fine lines on the photo.

    I got these round blue IDE cables from BestByte Computers at BestByte.net. They are really low priced and excellent quality. I have found that round IDE cables are often too rigid, but these are very flexible.

      Here is my whole set up in my dorm room. It's been tough trying to cram all this business into college housing.

      <img border="0" src="http://studentwebs.winona.edu/cablomqu6772/computers/panarama.jpg" width="800" height="345">

      My laptop resides on the keyboard drawer most of the time. I only use it in class and it simply sits on that drawer so that I can manage the files on it.

      The computer on the left on the floor is a little 300Mhz machine. I use it to format and partition old hard drives for old comps I fix. I put a Matrox g450 in it and I use two old Acer monitors with it. They are both 1024x768 max res. I find they get the job done and friends can use it to check their mail when they come over.

          Does anyone know where I can get a removable hard drive bay that isn't all rounded out in the front? I have two removable bays in an old computer I have, but I want something that will look nice on this new system, and the bays I have now don't sit flush with the surface of the front of the case.

          I don't need aluminum bays or anything. My case is plastic and steel, so I don't need anything too expensive. I just want something plain white and flat on the front.

          Has anyone had problems using removable HD bays with a case that used drive rails? Does removing and replacing the HDs wear out the little rails or anything?

          Any input on this would be appreciated. I don't want a system with 6 5.25" bays that only has a CD Burner and DVD Drive, so help me out!

                  It is sorta cramped in this room, but I manage all right. Anybody have ideas on what removable hard drive bays I should get as I asked above?

                    Corduroy - From your previous posts you sound like an eBay guy, Have you tried searching eBay for "removable bay" to find brands which make flat bays.

                    I know I seen them before.

                    eBay is proably the answer.

                        Mingus,

                        I have looked on ebay, but I find that the quality of drive bays there are spotty, as my friend bought myself and others some from ebay about a year ago and they have been of unfortunate quality.

                        Maybe I will give it another go. I was looking for specific brand names, just to see if some removable hard drive bays were better quality than others.
