  • Internal Display for custom build Case

    Hey

I'm starting to build a custom case for my NAS soon, as there aint any on the market that suit my needs exactly. Now i want to add a display to it, and kinda already have in its current form.

Right now I'm using the display from an old Logitech G15 where the keyboard part died due to coffee overdose. It works fine, however its connected to an external USB port and I'd like to connect it internally to a USB header instead.

I'm totally lost in this area. What are they called, what to look for and where to get them... I remember back in my college days one of my roommates made an internal display connected via the parallel port (12-14ish years ago).

All I could find so far is a Targa / Futaba MDM166A on ebay. It's something, but not entirely what I'm looking for. I've even considered hunting for a broken G19 keyboard to steal the display from..

Any advice and suggestions are welcome.

Re: Internal Display for custom build Case

Thanks a lot for the link, Yea something like that.

I'd prefer a "pixel" version to be able to present graphics etc (Like the on in the G15 Keyboard), but atm. I'm pretty much settling for anything. I am even considering a 7" faytech touch monitor atm :)
But your link lead me to the shop of them and they do have a 20*4 LCD Smartie Display Board UART USB PC(Edition III) that pretty much does it.

I also found one single article on the Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon Display that is pretty much perfect, but couldn't find any shop that has it.

Re: Internal Display for custom build Case

i ended up ordering the 7" touch screen over the weekend ... cost a bit more, but it also gives me a lot more local control over the device. (and 2 new 4drive backplanes w. fan controller, esata and usb)
Hardware components in house (except the AIO CPU WCU)

Next up, find out what tools i need and if its even affordable to make it myself when i have to get most tools new or if its cheaper to bring the measurements to a professional. (sheet metal)

Re: Internal Display for custom build Case

Got the display last friday and it performs better than expected. The build in speakers are absolute crap, but that was to be expected at that size.

Next up is making a custom power cable for it. I need 12V with 5A - is it possible (should be) to draw this from the PSU, and what source/connecter would be the best to draw it from?
