  • what memory to buy?

    I have a MIS board, N8K Neo 2 (MS-6702E)
I have 2x1 gigs of memory now, they say KHX3200A/1g
I want 4x1 gigs of memory.

my question is can i buy any KHX3200A/1g? or do i need to look for a special number? all of this timing stuff is confusing me... also when i look at other KHX3200A/1g they look different or have different numbers under where is says KHX3200A/1g. so i just want to make sure i buy something that will work correctly.

    Thank you.

I have a pic of my memory if you want me to upload let me know, or i can just write all that is says on it.

    Re: what memory to buy?

    "KHX3200A/1g" This is a Standard 128M X 64 Non-ECC 400MHz 184-pin Unbuffered DIMM
made by Kingston the KHX is Kingston HyperX the 3200A is PC3200. The/1g stands for 1 GB so if you want 2 more GB's be sure it is /1g. Don't pay to much attention to the memory looking slightly different if it has the same part numbers. They don't always use the same pcb or chips on it. The latency timings are 2-3-2-6-1 Be sure the memory you ad is the same so it will be running at the same voltage and latency timings too. http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX3200A_1g.pdf Here is more on it. http://www.kingston.com/hyperx/products/khx.asp#400d I hope this helps.

      Re: what memory to buy?

so any 3200/1g is ok? or should i get HyperX 3200? 1gig

      like would this work?

      Kingston 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory at TigerDirect.com

also i clicked your link... and well they dont sell it on the site anymore :(

      We're sorry
The part you selected, , is not attached to any particular system.

      EDIT: I did find this.....

      Brand Kingston HyperX
      Capacity 2GB (2 x 1GB)
      Cas Latency 2
      Heat Spreader Yes
Recommend Use High Performance or Gaming Memory
      Speed DDR 400 (PC 3200)
      Timing 2-3-2-6
      Type 184-Pin DDR SDRAM

This should be good, right? I would like to be 100% before i buy. because waiting and sending things back sucks :(

It's possible that the part has been discontinued or the part number you entered was typed in incorrectly.

        Re: what memory to buy?

That was 2 links I posted. They offer it here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new
It will work but the timings will change on the memory you currently have installed. The current HyperX you have installed has faster timings "2-2-2-5-1". This will change to the slower timmings of the Kingston Value Ram of 3-3-3, or the hyperX memory you linked at 2.5-3-3-7-1. It is better with all 4 of them the same. @ 2-2-2-5-1 the KHX3200A/1g is better.
