  • GPU is underperforming when system is configured with three M.2 drives

    Hi
When I am using three M.2 SSD drives installed on my mobo the GPU performens is really bad. Framrate is cut in half and despite having a framrate at 90 FPS, that should be playable the gameplay is choppy/lagging.. When I remove all but one M.2 disk the lag dissapears and the FPS more then doubles. Anyone else had this issue or now what it is all about?

The performance dips and choppy gaming you're experiencing when using all three M.2 SSDs are uncommon, although they might occur for a variety of reasons.

      • Test Different Configurations: Try different configurations of M.2 SSDs in different slots to see if the issue persists. Sometimes changing the slot or rearranging components can resolve conflicts.
      • Check Forums and Support: Look for similar issues on forums like Tweaktown or the support pages of your motherboard manufacturer. Other users with similar setups might have experienced and resolved the same issue.

I just encountered this problem recently. My friend said it was because I was using three M.2 SSDs.

Check your manual - you will see that some M2 slots are handled by CPU lanes and others Chipset lanes. There may be a warning about which M2 slots to use.
I addition if using GC to update drivers and BIOS take note that GB has been slow to list latest to their GC listings. Select your MB and go to the update section manually and look for updates that may address your issues.

It seems that the issue you are experiencing is related to the motherboard's bandwidth being shared between the M.2 SSDs and the GPU. When you install multiple M.2 SSDs, the PCIe bandwidth is divided among the devices, leaving the GPU with insufficient bandwidth to operate optimally, resulting in reduced gaming performance. You can try changing the PCIe configuration (e.g., prioritizing the bandwidth for the GPU) or upgrading to a motherboard that supports multiple M.2s without affecting GPU performance.
