I'm curious to see if anybody else has the problem of SATA Port recognition once W10 is installed. I have to Load Optimized Default Settings in the BIOS on the GA-Z77-UD5H/3570K (F14 BIOS) system every time I make a physical change to the drives on the Intel SATA ports. Seems like it can find two drives but that's about all until I do the BIOS Load Optimized Default Settings routine. I ran into a similar issue with a couple of ASRock Z97 systems. The only thing I can rationalize is in all cases I was playing with an old OCZ Vertex 3 SSD when I installed W10?! I never experienced anything like this when running W7 or W8. Any idea on what the heck is going on would be appreciated.

Re: GA-Z77-UD5H and W10 Sata Port Recognition?
Ken's PC Specs shows that he has one ssd, two hard drives and one optical drive installed.
I assume that Ken is using AHCI mode for his storage controller.
With my EP45-UD3P system, I have my optical drive attached to the GSata port to free up one Intel sata port.
I have no problem connecting any of my 3TB external hard drives to an unused Intel sata2 port (using a sata to e-sata cable) when my system is powered on or powered off.Q9650 @ 4.10GHz [9x456MHz]

Re: GA-Z77-UD5H and W10 Sata Port Recognition?
Ok I concede, I've got a GA-Z77-UD5H MB that is dying. I'm also having strange things going on with the onboard video. The BIOS displays and then the screen goes blank when W10 takes over. This only happens on a screen connected to the DVI port. When I connect a monitor to the HDMI port W10 displays correctly BUT W10 will not "turn off" the monitor when entering sleep state.

Any warranty left? In USA warranty is 3 years for motherboards.
Just for grins, reflash the BIOS. I've seen this cure many an ill on my Gigabyte MB's.Maximus 8 Hero/6700K @ 4.8/4x4GB LPX @ 3200 15-17-17-36 CR1

Re: GA-Z77-UD5H and W10 Sata Port Recognition?
Warranty is long gone. I guess they don't make things the way they used to. This is the second GA-Z77-UD5H MB that has gone flaky. I've got two old GA-EP45-UD3P MB's that keep on running no matter what abuse I throw at them and I had a couple of ABit MB's that I finally had to retire after ~10 years because they became obsolete. Oh well, I'll find a new home for the 3570K - probably the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MB. Thanks for information and suggestions.

Well if you haven't I would definitely reflash the BIOS. Sometimes it gets corrupted. I just flashed a modded F16g on our Z77 and it seems to be working well.Maximus 8 Hero/6700K @ 4.8/4x4GB LPX @ 3200 15-17-17-36 CR1
