  • Z170X UD5 memory compatability

    I want to install 16GB of Corsair memory using 2 x 8 GB sticks. Does anyone know (or use) Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) 2666 MHZ model CMK16GX4M2A2666C16 that works with this mobo? I checked the memory list on Gigabyte site and they do not show any 16GB Corsair setup using 2 x 8GB sticks. I also could not find info on Corsair website. I thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Why you say they don't when the first 2x8GB kit listed is CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 and the one after is CMK16GX4M2B3000C15?

      My questions was specific to 2666 not 3200 nor 3000.Thank you for ur response.

            And was is so special about 2666? I can assure you DDR-3000 will run at 2666 with possibly lower voltage, they might even have an XMP 2666 profile.
            You can contact GIGABYTE support and ask, take your chances with the 2666 modules or go with something that have been tested.

            Corsair memory-finder configurator does show this kit as compatible with your board.

              Thank you for the info. As my user name implies I'm a newbie at OC as I have never OC. My interest on the 2666 was because I read that if I enable X.M.P., it would automatically configure to use the full 2666 frequency without me having to do anything else. I'll take a look at using 3000 but when I enable X.M.P. wouldn't it automatically configure to run at 3000 and not 2666? I should also mention that I don't play games on the PC and the reason I wanted to OC to 2666 was to have faster processing while rendering videos.

                The 3000 RAM like the 2666 has XMP, whether it will run at 3000 or not we are yet to see, this depends on the CPU memory controller and BIOS also.

                Note that the latency for the DDR-3000 (clock 1500) is much lower than the 2666(clock 1333) and if we scale 15 @ 3000 to 2666 it would be about 13 that is, the time of 15 clock cycles at 1.5GHz equal to the time of 13.33 clock cycles at 1.333GHz.
                Faster RAM with lower latency will help some but the main benefit will always be from CPU OC.

                I don't know what XMP profiles those modules have, but they may have 2 one for DDR-3000 and another for 2800 or 2666, in any case you can always enable XMP and lower the desired speed manually along with other parameters #like voltages#
                And you may #or may not# have them at faster rate, I've seen people OC DDR-3200 to near 4000 or DDR-2133 #non-OC memory# to 3000, luck is also a factor here.

                Personally I go with the fastest and cheapest memory I can get, that is compatible with the motherboard/CPU, either by motherboard or memory manufacturer, or know to work on similar system of other users.

                Given the price difference I would probably choose the 2666 over the 3000 and hope I can squeeze some more of it, but it wouldn't be bad choice as it is.
