  • Windows UEFI install worth it when graphics card isn't?

I'm about to do a clean install of Win 8.1 to see if that will solve the problems discussed in a prior thread. One question: wiht the Z97-UD5H-BK board, is there any benefit to doing a Windows UEFI install if the graphics card, a Sapphire HD7750 Ultimate graphics card, is not UEFI and there aren't any UEFI drivers for it, official or otherwise (I've looked)? Thanks,

If you disable CSM completely, does the BIOS screen display on the monitor attached to the HD7750 with DEL, END, F12 options etc?

If it doesn't, then how would I switch back?

BIOS reset, there will be 2 pins on your board that you can short to do such, your motherboard manual should show you where etc.

Ok, I'm familiar with that button. I went ahead with the Win UEFI version and set CSM to Always in advance. The reason was that info I found said that screen problems were common with a non-UEFI graphics card and changing to CSM solved it. The computer has been running well, so is it really worth playing with?

The only reason I suggested was purely to make sure that the motherboard did or did not load in uefi driver for display.

As for the install question, installing in uefi mode for Windows 8.1 will be fine if you have csm enabled so that the legacy option roms are installed for gpu compatibility sure, the benefits are increased boot speed and bigger hard drive support at boot up.

            You will be fine.
