  • GA-Z97X-Gaming GT, Power Light Flashes Once, No Power to Peripherals, Does Not Turn On

I have a GA-z97x-gaming gt that is failing to power on. At first i thought the PSU was out (Corsair HX850) so I RMA'd the PSU. The Motherboard does not power up with the replacement PSU either. The replacement PSU (also an HX850) passes Corsair's paperclip test. I never tested the original Corsair HX850 that I RMA'd.

The Motherboard's power button light flashes once when I press the power up button on the PSU but nothing turns on. No fan comes on. There are no numeric codes of any kind - that little 2 digit display near the Motherboard's power button does not even show anything, no light, no digits.

The computer pretty much just stopped working cold turkey. Turned it off at night, could not turn it back on the next day.

I've submitted a support ticket with Gigabyte but am at a loss as to what I could troubleshoot next. My computer specs are listed below:
    • Motherboard: GA-Z97X-Gaming GT (v1.0)
    • CPU: Intel i7-4790K (on-board graphics)
    • RAM: Corsair Vengeance PC3 12800 (CMY16GX3M2A1600C9R) 16GB
    • CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Performa 120mm
    • Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1003FZEX
    • OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
    • No Other Video Card
    • No Other Sound Card
    • Case: Cooler Master HAF 912

I will greatly appreciate any help you can provide me in troubleshooting this. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information to help troubleshoot.

    Thank you,

    Jawad

If it wasn't for the fact that it previously was working, I would say it sounds suspiciously like bent pins in the cpu socket.
That seems unlikely if it previously worked, but that and wiring is all I can think of to check offhand.

If you have eliminated the psu and wiring (I've seen a loose pin in a 24 pin connector cause a failure) and you are truly stuck then maybe it's worth a shot to pull the cpu and take some closeup digital pics of the socket and look for any pins out of place.

    good luck!

Thank you for the response. I removed the CMOS battery for a few seconds and then reinstalled it. The system powered up normally after the battery had been removed and re-installed. We can mark this as closed.

Great. sometimes it's the simple stuff.
But every time I think someone has done the simple stuff first I'm always wrong.
