Giga Mobo and clock

very simple question.....when booting windows 7 the time shows wrong . Is it the Gigabyte Mobo need a new battery or is it software related ? No other problems and the mobo is only a couple of years old . Z77X-UD5H and thats about the only problem I have with it

It's probably a weak motherboard battery.

A brand new battery will probably read 3.2 - 3.3 volts.

I replace older motherboard batteries when the voltage drops to 2.9 or 3.0 volts when testing with a DMM (Digital Multi Meter).

You can buy an inexpensive DMM for under $10 from Harbor Freight or some big box hardware stores in the U.S.A.

This one is similar to my least expensive DMM:

I've had mobo batteries work fine for over five years, and others that needed replacing in a six month old board of a newly released model.

No point worrying about a $2 battery, replace it.

would have to learn how to use one of them but I guess it wouldnt be that hard and it would come in hand for lots of things related to PC's

but in the meantime will replace the battery, funny thing is that since the first 386 computer I had and 1st 486 one i pout together have never replaced a battery ...... I thought it may be the case and am glad to get my opinion confirmed

You're welcome.

A web search using: how to use a digital multimeter will provide detailed instructions.
You should also check out good youtube DMM tutorials.

You will need to use the DC voltage settings using the 20 VDC setting.

The test leads need use the correct plugs; com for the black ground/earth test lead and red for the volts-ohms-millliamps positive test lead.

In the above picture DC volt selection is in the upper left portion and AC volt selection is in the upper right portion.

If you accidentally select the OHMS or AMPS settings you will blow the meter's fuse or ruin the meter.

When you are done testing always turn the rotary selector to the OFF position.

A word to the wise, a man's got to know his limitations.


Tonight my camera's battery warning indicator showed that the battery was low.
When I removed the battery my DMM showed 6.7 volts before recharging and 8.3 volts after the battery was fully recharged.
