Missing HDD after RAID 0 installation fail

Hi,I

have recently bought a new laptop, Gigabyte P35K with 128GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD and swappable Optical drive bay/SSD.
I did a silly thing, of course! I went to install a 256GB SSD in the swappable optical bay and then attempted to change BIOS to RAID 0. Things went pear shaped after I couldn't get Intels Rapid Storage Technology program to set up correctly. I have swapped back to AHCI and now my 1 TB HDD has gone missing in action. I have done a re-install and still no luck with the missing HDD. Although Disk Management keeps showing the 256 GB SSD as installed when it isn't as I reverted back to the Optical drive in the swappable bay. I have tried researching a solution but best I can come up with is that there is something stuck in the registry and this is beyond me
System specs are: i7-4700HQ, 12GB RAM, 128 GB mSSD + 1 TB 5400rpm HDD running Windows 8.1 which is another problem as I am clueless with this OS so far

did you go in the raid console and disable the raid array? it might showup then

if sata ports are set to raid mode in the bios,then press ctrl and I together at startup just after bios logo,then once in the console delete the array

backup any important data on the raid beforehand,it should then show up in windows

bios is set to AHCI and the 1 TB HDD is listed and located at Port 0. The 128GB SSD is located at Port 4 and the Optical drive at Port 2.
I cant seem to do this control I function you mention? I access the BIOS via F2 on boot up but tried various ways with your Control I with no success.
Device Manager lists 2 drives, the OS on the 128GB SSD which is working but the 1 TB HDD is listed as a "Intel raid 1 volume" and size is 238GB which is incorrect. I think this is the problem but don't know how to change the drive back to non-raid etc.

What wazza is talking about is where you set up a RAID array. Typically on Gigabyte boards you hit CTRL + I while booting up to access it, and is where you should have set up your RAID array.

I'm guessing all you did was set the BIOS to RAID without also going into the RAID control panel, then tried to boot into Windows and that's where everything went bad? You may have to clear CMOS to get it all straightened out, I don't know for sure.

Yep that's about the sum of it :( I still cant find the RAID array in this mess that's called windows 8.1.
I have found Storage Spaces and the stated error "Drives with unrecognised configuration" "Intel Raid ! Volume" attached via SATA which is the mis-configured 1TB HDD seen as a 232 GB drive now....just cant to seem to find anywhere where I can actually access the drive and change its settings or re-format or anything ....

you set to raid in bio not ahci

then its ctrl and I to access console

it should let you delete the array in the console

Thanks guys I have got the 1 TB HDD back, minus the files that were on it :( The control I short cut doesn't work on this device, however I went back to RAID in BIOS and then opened up the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application, found the half baked setup, deleted the array. Back into BIOS and AHCI and then found and initialised the 1 TB HDD as E: drive. Hard lesson learned but thanks to wazza and boondocks for persisting :)

shame you lost your data but I don't think you could have recovered it with raid
