    newer owned P35 mobo so can't confirm that, but how can you find this relevant when you are testing your SATA3 drive?

    Even if you are using some kind of SATA PCI-E controller. SATA3 bandwidth is 6Gb/s (SATA2: 3Gb/s), PCI-E 1.0 has 2.5GT/s (around 150Gb/s) and your drive is using 1Gb/s.


    EDIT: I'am a bit confused as to why you are getting such low speeds with SSD. You sure it's operating at SuperSpeed (SS) USB3? Those out of place blue bubbles on the right in the last screen might represent the sequential speeds, but when it comes to 128K and others, either this app isn't giving all the information, or they are lower than they should be. click here

    EDIT2: AS SSD numbers definitely too low.

      All three of the drives I benchmarked used the usb 3.0 interface, not the sata interface.
      Most if not all of the pci-e usb 3.0 add-in cards are designed to be used with a pci-e 2.0 x1 slot but they should be compatible with pci-e 1.x systems.

      These benchmarks for my o/s boot drive are from my now retired P35-DS3L system:

        Now here is MY toy with Rapid mode enabled :P


        Update on CPU front: Received X5460 SLANP. Currently at 4Ghz cause I can't seem to keep the temps in check with anything higher (already in 80s), vcore around 1.36v. For some reason this thing heats up more than Q6600.. I'am hoping the SLBBA one will be more efficient and therefore will run cooler. Current cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO, but it looks like on 2014 models they replaced fan with silent version operating at 1300rpm max, so might need to mess with it a bit...

          It would be more meaningful if you posted several different ssd benchmarks with rapid mode enabled.
          I'm pretty sure that the simplistic Samsung Magician benchmark would have much lower scores.

              Glad to see that you received your X5460.
              I don't perform benchmarks when I have Prime95 running in the background.

              It's interesting that we had similar overall scores, where:
              • your Read scores were far better than mine
              • my Write scores were far better than yours

              Maybe this difference is common with 840 EVO versus 840 Pro models.
              I'd hardly call the CDM scores similar to the AnvilPro scores.

              FWIW, I found no difference when running with Rapid mode enabled in everyday use.
              It might make a difference when gaming or encoding.

                Getting closer, but no cigar just yet.
                Having issues with Prime95 Blend test with large FFT's.
                With ambient temperatures = 18o(C) or 65o(F), average Prime95 core temperatures are ~58o(C).
                LinX and IBT 2048MB tests with 5 loops; maximum core temperatures were 69o(C).

                  I was careless and didn't look closely at Memset's Performance Level (aka tRD or Static tRead Value) which is currently set to 10 for each memory channel. I had left the tRD setting on AUTO and didn't double check the value provided by using the bios' Turbo Performance Level setting.

                    At 4.20GHz, the voltages and temperatures are too high for my liking.

                    I'm going to put my Q9550 efforts into a rock solid 3.80GHz setup.

                    Time to see how well my Q9650 will do in my Asus P5Q Premium system with AIO cpu water cooling.

                      Tweaking Reference Voltage Settings

                      CPU GTL_REF(0~4) Ratio - [Auto, Default, -226mV ~ +224mV] Gunning Transceiver Logic (GTL) voltages are nothing more than reference thresholds used by the CPU and SPP (MCH) in determining if the voltage potential on a FSB data or address signal line is intended to represent either a logic level 1 (high) or logical level 0 (low). These voltages are generated by the motherboard, usually though the use of precision voltage dividers or high-accuracy, programmable digital potentiometers. Although the most common way to specify these values is as a percentage (or ratio) of full scale CPU VTT Voltage, NVIDIA has decided to provide these settings as simple offsets meaning a little math will be involved if you want to make a change.

                      These reference values are particularly important when overclocking quad-core CPUs, especially when venturing above about 475MHz FSB. The ability to tune these values per die can mean the difference between achieving a stable overclock at 475FSB and one at 500FSB. The real power seen in GTL reference tuning comes in the ability to provide each quad-core die with separate reference values. (Recall that current quad-cores from Intel are an MCM design consisting of two dual-core dies on a single substrate package.)

                      Intel's GTL specification dictates that each reference voltage should be tightly controlled as 67% of the current VTT voltage (0.67 times CPU VTT Voltage). Typically, changes in VTT are automatically compensated with standard voltage divider circuits dedicated to the generation of each GTL reference voltage. Historical data has shown that dual-core CPUs (in particular 45nm dual-cores) often clock to higher FSB levels when the GTL reference values are closer to 63 ~ 64% of VTT while quad-core CPUs usually need the full strength value or even a little more voltage (67 ~ 70% of VTT).

                      Proper GTL reference level tuning can sometimes allow for a dramatic reduction in VTT and in some severe cases even permits the use of a lower core supply voltage (Vcore). The most recent x64 build of Prime95, version 25.6 build 6, provides an excellent means for testing the effectiveness of CPU-specific GTL tuning. Simply load the program, select the Blend type Torture Test, and watch for any instance to drop out. Note the instance number (which will correlate to the core in question), reset and enter the BIOS, make a small adjustment to the corresponding GTL reference value(s), and then start a new test run. If the test runs for a longer period of time then you can be confident that you are at least moving in the right direction. Continue this process until the system is sufficiently stable with the current settings.
                      The procedure for properly tweaking reference voltage settings varies with each manufacturer and motherboard model.

                      If you are looking for the highest possible overclock, you will need to spend a considerable amount of time when tweaking and testing these settings. Some have reported that tweaking some clock skew settings in the bios can sometimes help with stability and higher overclocks.

                        Finally, after a long leave of absence I'm back and raring to go!

                        atm I've only booted into BIOS with my Q6600 CPU, 1x2GB RAM, 8800GTS graphics card and my Kingston SSD and loaded optimised defaults.

                        Since moving out of Uni all my things are across the country and I can't find my cotton buds and alcohol so my cooler and thermal paste won't be as effective as it could be.

                        Here is my first draft of my action plan.

                        1. Update to modded BIOS (F11D)
                        2. Change BIOS settings according to your guide here (http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784)
                        3. Install fresh version of Windows 7 with current setup
                        4. Install all modules of RAM
                        5. Use BlackViper's guide to trim Windows
                        6. Perform Xeon mod
                        7. Start overclocking :)

                        How does that sound Jim?

                        Also, I actually got to open the package you sent me today which was awesome so thanks again for that!

                          The computer booted into Windows from the P35-DS3L system - I will probably still format and re-install windows but is there any harm in leaving the SDD the way it is and just updating the drivers?

                            I assume that the F9 bios is for the EP45-UD3P.

                            My EP45-UD3P is running the most recent Gigabyte F10 supported bios and Trim is not supported for my ssd.
                            I don't know if IRST 11.5.0.1347 supports the Trim command.
                            With Trim not supported, HD Sentinel reports that my Samsung 830 ssd's performance at 80% when booting in raid mode.
                            If I boot using IDE mode, the performance rating is 100%.
                            Do I notice any performance difference with IDE versus raid mode? No.

                            The computer booted into Windows from the P35-DS3L system - I will probably still format and re-install windows but is there any harm in leaving the SDD the way it is and just updating the drivers?
                            To avoid possible problems, you should do an ssd wipe and do a fresh win7 install with your ssd installed in your EP45-UD3P with the F11d mod bios. It would also be a good idea to back up your current win7/P35-DS3L o/s and recovery partitions in case you need to fall back to your P35-DS3L motherboard.

                            I've had some strange issues with my systems when I switched over to my new motherboards with my existing o/s installations.

                            With 8GB of memory I'm able to run three browsers at the same time where there are nearly 1500 processes running and there is little or no page file use.

                            BTW I'm now using my 8GB HyperX T1 memory in my EP45-UD3P/Q9550 system.

                              Good to be back Jim!

                              I have all my files backed up on my External HDD so if I have to fall back to my P35-DS3L I'll probably just re-install Windows again as I have my laptop as a fall back.

                              I've downloaded all the drivers and utilities you mentioned in your message except for the Intel INF installation file - I have the file from the Gigabyte website but am not sure which one to get from the Intel website.

                              After I've updated the BIOS I will do make an updated list of BIOS settings, I'll also update my signature and hardware specs. Does my plan look alright or is there anything I've missed?

                                You will probably find it easier to use the EXE version.

                                EasyTune6 build 2009.7.23 should be the most recent version for the EP45-UD3P.
                                1. Install win7
                                2. Install infinst
                                3. Install win7 SP1
                                4. Install other drivers/software as needed
