I think you misunderstand. the socket area is TALLER than cpu. it's not getting ENOUGH pressure on IHS, not too much. if the IHS was taller it wouldn't matter i agree. However, in my case, I'm actually seeing that at least one of the corners, the bracket is taller; PREVENTING the block from applying evenly and effectively to the IHS. a problem I didn't have with noctua because it was smaller and not on top of bracket and thus, could sit on IHS tighter. It's sounding more and more like a possible board problem than water block problem. One that probably has no easy fix. I did notice first couple times I took block off it has a strong engraving of that corner too in the copper from tightening down to get to the cpu, i suppose with enough wear it'll sort itself out too. This is the only thing i can find wrong with the setup. Nothing else is wrong with it that I can find.
Then that is truly weird. I don't have that board, but I've had a Raystorm on my Z87UD5H & Z97UD5H with absolutely no problems.

If the CPU retainer is hitting the block, before the block mates to the ihs, that is a huge problem.
OK I just went over to OCN at looked at the spreadsheet for the DC owners club and there are Z97 SOC Force boards with Raystorm blocks.....
Something is obviously not right, but without seeing it I have no idea.

4.8 with a noctua D15. impressive for air. then again he didn't really say how stable or high temps were at that. the noctua's are pretty good though. I still seriously consider getting the D15 to replace my water block which ties with a D14, and I know the d15 does perform a little better plus has better clearance than D14.
Nice. I have to wonder what the "1103" BIOS is though...is that supposed to be a version number or something your average joe isn't going to find?
Otherwise I agree with the article by Steve, it's a very solid board. I water cool almost exclusively but I know others would like some decent fan control instead of the present system, and I would love to see a way to attach leads for the voltage measurements on the board instead of trying to pick around components to reach tiny solder joints.

Yea,DC has very strong IMC (better then 4770K).
If you can choose...look at L419xxxx and higher batches.....
I like many, beg to differ. Considering I have an amazing 4790 (does 5.0 stable but temps are way too high for my liking so I run 4.9 at 1.42) and I am unable to get my memory running as fast as I could on my haswell at essentially the maximum voltage my board will put out.
Of course I could go a step further and just point out that the chip is the same exact chip 100% as the haswell. Nothing has changed except the package therefore the IMC is exactly the same. Meaning, it's luck of the draw. Their will be variation etc. No way to predict with any accuracy and certainly moot to try to compare the devils canyon IMC to the haswell because they're the same lol.
I'd get into why delidding is pointless on devils canyon as opposed to haswell but fighting misinformation takes a lot out of me :p
My 4770K does better than my 4790K, as far as frequency/voltage. I can boot at 5.0 with my 4770K but no way with my 4790K.
For example my 4770K will run 4.8 stable at 1.32 vcore, while my 4790K runs 4.8 stable at 1.38 vcore. I can get the 4770K stable at 4.9 but not the 4790K.
I have moved the best cpu (4770K) to my Z97 UD5H and the 4790K to my Z87 UD5H.
I had thought that the better power delivery of my Z87 board might make some small difference, but it does not, which confirms what I thought. It takes identical vcore with either board to deliver the same overclock.
I do like that my Z87 shows Vring via software/sensor, however it is that it is actually derived.
Either board/cpu runs my 4x4GB of 2400 DRAM equally as well, so at least for the RAM I have either cpu runs it fine.
Although I delidded the 4770K, I don't have a need to with the 4790K as it runs a little cooler.
I have 2x4GB of 2400 G Skill RAM coming for my Z87 tomorrow, and I will continue to run the 4x4GB of 2400 on my Z97 since it's my main rig.

@Boondocks, since you basically overclocked both 4770k and 4790k, can you tell me if there is a real world perfomance advantage of the Devil's canyon at the same clocks. I'm tempted to buy it, but something just tells me to wait for the next one. There could be better improvements in store.

There are some small improvements in benchmarks, such as Cinebench. Nothing big enough to make much difference in real-world apps in my opinion. But at the same time, you are pretty much guaranteed a minimum 4.4 clock with a small vcore....and if you get one of the better 4790K cpu's, you might get at least 4.7 @ < 1.3 vcore. My 4790K will do 4.7 stable at 1.272v and that's not too shabby.
I would go for the 4790K given a choice. But if money were really tight, I would pick up a 4770K on sale and be satisfied.
