Z77X-UD5H not recognizing Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad LP

Hi everyone.
So, I'm having problems with my Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H.
I've had it for a while, and one of the on-board NICs died.
Since I use that board for lots of network-related testing, I decided to just get a new PCI-e card, and not to RMA it.
I picked up an Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad Port LP Server Adapter.
Now the problem is, the motherboard just doesn't seem to recognized this card...

Stuff I've already tried:
- The Intel card works in another computer (ASUS x79 Rampage).
- Tried all 3 PCI-e slots on the Gigabyte.
- The Gigabyte's first slot does work, since it does recognize my LSI Raid Controller.
- Tried different PSU (First PSU I used only had 4-pin CPU power).
- Tried updating BIOS to latest beta available on Gigabyte website.
- Tried serveral OSes, including a customized ESXi/Vsphere and Windows 8.1.
- Changed BIOS PCI-e setting from AUTO to PCI-e gen2.0.

None of those steps have worked.
The device simply doesn't show up in device manager in Windows, not even as "unknown device" or something.
Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong?

EDIT:
I temporarily stole a dual port card from one of my other machines, this one works fine.
Also, the heatsink on the quad port card does feel hot, so it must be doing something...

Did you only try it in all 3 pci-e x1 slots?

Intel specs:

• Compatible with x4, x8, and x16 standard and low-profile PCI Express slots
• Bus - PCI Express 1.0a

It doesn't look like a pci-e x1 slot is supported.
It sounds like it will work in the pci-e x8 slot but this would reduce the first x16 slot to x8 mode.

Gigabyte specs:
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)

• The PCIEX4 slot is available only when an Intel 22nm (Ivy Bridge) CPU is installed.
• The PCIEX4 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX8 and PCIEX16 slots. When the PCIEX4 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode and the PCIEX8 will operate at up to x4 mode.

The card doesn't fit in the x1 slots, I tried all other 3.
CPU is the i7-3770, which is 22nm, so bottom slot works.
I've confirmed this by installing my Pro 1000 PT Dual Port in that slot.
In fact, the dual port card works in all 'big' PCI-e slots.

This might sound ridiculous, but did you try to install the driver for this card? That would mean a driver from a disk provided with the card?

I mention this because I don't see any drivers available for this card for a common PC OS like, Windows 7, for example, or Windows 8, on Intel's download page for this card:

It's interesting that the card was recognized on an X79 system, since that is an uncommon chipset/platform for PCs, and is unique among PC platforms in several ways. The X79 chipset is a re-badged C602 enterprise chipset.

It's possible that a PC chipset board like a Z77 would nothave an INF file for this card in the chipset file installation program, or a network option ROM that would work with this card. The simple, single port network cards like an Intel GT 1000 are the easiest NICs to install and use, so if this one is not cooperating for you the issue could be more complex, given the card is working, which it seems to be.

Hi!

Have you found a solution for that problem? I have the same thing with almost the same setting here? The card is simply not recognized by the bios but it does work in an older PC with Abit IP-35 Pro MB. All my attempts (similar to yours) failed. I don't have any idea right now.
