Hi I have my ep45 over clocked for awhile, I enabled HPET in bios and in windows ,seems oc is unstable now. Could it be because of HPET or windows 8.1 ? Something else? Thks

    Re: ep45-ud3l help pls

I've had no problems with HPET (High Precision Event Timer) enabled with win2k and win7-x64 on my overclocked P35 systems and my EP45-UD3P (before it died).
Win 8.x might be a different matter.
The older Gigabyte boards lets you enable or disable HPET and also select 32 or 64 bit modes in the bios.

A web search using: windows 8 forum hpet
provides links to major web sites that have detailed information and a wide variety of opinions. I often find the most useful information in the sevenforums and microsoft tech sites. A quick read of some of the better sites seems to indicate that possible HPET issues and solutions depend on hardware (older versus newer motherboards and/or processors), gaming, DPC latency, waking and sleeping, overclocking, etc. I've read but haven't confirmed that by default, win 8.x disables HPET.

You'll need to do some research and determine which setting works best for you.
Some swear by HPET and others swear at HPET.

Let us know what works best for you.

It's best when you fill in your full system details in the PC Specs or Forum Signature portions of your profile so that we don't need to keep asking about your hardware, bios, O/S, etc. Posting this information in a single post is a waste of everyone's time when we need to go searching through a thread to find this information.
