          Re: i7 4930k

Did you clear the BIOS/CMOS after installing the new 4930K processor?

Did you run the latest INF file installer and install the latest Intel Management Engine Interface software? That is required for your new CPU, and the Intel Management Engine software should be done before the processor is installed, according to your board's download page. The Device Manager problem tells me you don't have the IME software installed.

with no OS at all ,in bios i think i should ''see'' 16 gb not 12gb ,am i right???

              Re: i7 4930k

Where did the f14b BIOS come from? A beta BIOS I guess? Not on the download page for your board that I found:

              GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 2011 - GA-X79-UD5 (rev. 1.0)

Notice what is says about BIOS F13w, it is needed for IVB-E processor support. That is because the update also changes the IME firmware (different than the IME software) that is part of the BIOS. I have no idea what BIOS f14b has in it.

Also notice what is says in the F13w update:

To Support IVB-E CPU, the Intel driver must be updated in advanced.

They mean, "... in advance.", which means before you change to the IVB-E processor.

The IME firmware is important to the functioning of the CPU, which includes the memory controller (IMC) which is part of the CPU. That is probably why your memory is not seen correctly. But that is only the start of the problems you'll have if you OC your CPU or use anything besides stock settings.

WHY can't they have these Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge processor BIOS updates labeled and linked with special instructions so this does not happen to people!! This is worse than ASRock, and we thought they did a poor job!

                what they mean in advance
if i buy this mobo and that i7 4930k cpu at the same time how can i do this in ADVANCE???
and the big question is ,if we forget everything about Windows 7 and updates why i can not see 16gb ram in bios and channel B is compeletly dead?
i have installed f13w bios nothing happend ,and i run the latest drivers from gigabyte
                thanks for your reply

                  Re: i7 4930k

From the bios download page for bios version F13w:
                  1. Support IVB-E CPU
(Note) Please update @BIOS to ver.2.33 and be sure to reflash this BIOS through @BIOS ver2.33.
(Note) To Support IVB-E CPU, the Intel driver must be updated in advanced.

This means that you must use @BIOS ver 2.33 to flash your bios to F13w before you install an Ivy Bridge-E cpu.

In advance means that you first need to install a Sandy Bridge-E cpu so that you can flash the bios for the IB-E cpu.

Once the flash is successful, you can then remove the Sandy Bridge-E cpu and then install the Ivy Bridge-E cpu.

This is not a win7 issue, you need to follow this procedure for your bios to work properly with an IB-E cpu.

                    hello sir
this is exactly that i have done
when i was running i7 3930k i made the bios update with @bios
and from f13p jumped to f13w
i made after that update to f14a and f14b
from f13p bios the only way to update to f13w was @bios because the file was bigger and qflash was unable to update bios
                    thanks for your reply

Did you use @BIOS ver. 2.33 when you flashed from F13p to F13w and then to F14a and then to F14b?
Did you have the missing memory problem with the F13w bios downloaded from Gigabyte?
