  • GA-P55-UD6 Memory Configuration

    Hi community;

    I have a GA-P55-UD6 and I'm using it with 6GB Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMX6GX3M3A1600C9), 3x2GB memory modules.
Now I got Kingston 6x2GB memory module - KVR1333D3N9/2G from my old server.

So, nowadays 6gb ram is not enough for me. I haven'T got economy for buying new ram package. I tried to combine them.
When I look at GA-P55-UD6 memeory list KVR1333D3N9/2G is suitable.

    I tried 6 x KVR1333D3N9/2G computer didn't boot.
    I tried 2 x CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 (Slot 1-4) and 4 x KVR1333D3N9/2G computer only see 4gb ram.

I couldn't success to insert 12 gb ram.

    Now I'm using 3 x CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 (Slot 1-2-4) and 1 x KVR1333D3N9/2G (Slot 5). >> 8gb

My question is how can I my computer with 12gb ram. How can I combine them?

I hope u can help me

    Warm regards.

    Re: GA-P55-UD6 Memory Configuration

p55 doesn't support triple channel (3 ram sticks),only dual channel (two ram sticks,or four)

you should use the second and fourth slots for two sticks (from cpu socket to front of case),and all the slots for four sticks

      Re: GA-P55-UD6 Memory Configuration

According to Superfluity and Insufficiency of Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 Mainboard. Page 2 - X-bit labs you will need single-sided memory modules to be able to use all 6 slots on your board
      .
This review HARDOCP - Introduction - GIGABYTE P55-UD6 Motherboard Review says that your blue memory slots are only able to read single-sided memory modules if you populate all 6 of your memory slots.

The link you supplied about your ram http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/kvr1333d3n9_2g.pdf lists your ram as 2R memory modules, meaning they are dual-sided.

It would appear that you will be restricted to 8Gb using the memory modules you listed.

        Re: GA-P55-UD6 Memory Configuration

Mixing different brands or memory kit models is problematic at best and often not doable.

I would tend to believe the two web reviews above.
        From your motherboard user manual:

I tried this but computer didn't start.

I think I can use max. 8gb with my rams.

Correct. With the RAM you told us you have, you can only do a maximum of 8Gb.
Your manual says this, as do the couple of reviews I linked.
