  • Gigabyte GA-H77TN Motherboard LVDS vs. DisplayPort

I am new to the forum. I am trying to make a small PC with the Gigabyte GA-H77TN (LGA1155) mini-itx. It has an LVDS connection I did not intend to use. I believe this is the default display connection upon start-up for viewing the BIOS setup. How do I use another display port (DP or HDMI) as initial boot display?

In the online manual for this mb LVDS is "Disabled" by default in the BIOS.

Are you sure the CPU you have has an iGPU?
#1 - Please, when seeking help, enter the make and model of ALL parts that your system is comprised of in your Signature, or at least the model #'s in your System Specs, then "Save' it.

I could not find the default display into in the manual I was using. Maybe I have an old one??? Which port is the default display port?

I'm pretty sure the CPU has iGPU. I used this i5 with another mini-itx Intel Desktop Board S1200KP and it worked fine connected to the same monitor through its DVI port.

(Is my signature ok now? I am trying to build a simple PC so all of the info is not available yet. Baby steps. :))

Do you have a system speaker you can attach to hear any possible error beep codes?

Also, what version of this MB do you have, v1.0 or v1.1 ?

          v1.1. No beeps.

Tried DVI-D from display to HDMI on MB and BIOS comes up! Tried DisplayPort from display to DisplayPort on MB and it works too! I was using a VGA to DisplayPort cable that apparently did not work. Not sure why. Any ideas why?

The display I will ultimately be using only has DVI-D or VGA. What would happen if I use a DVI-D to DisplayPort cable?

I'm not keen on adapters. They sometimes, as you've discovered, cause more headaches than they're worth.
