  • H77M-D3H won't boot with a SATA card in the PCIe x4 slot

    Hi

    I am trying to get a Highpoint Rocket R640L card working in the x4 PCIe slot but the PC goes into a boot loop, where the power supply keeps switching off and on and there is nothing on the screen. The Highpoint card works perfectly in the x16 slot! A graphics card in the x4 slot works OK!

    I have verified this with 3 identical H77M-D3H rev. 1.1 motherboards (with BIOS versions F5, F10 and F11).

    I read someone had the same symptoms with a sound card in the x4 slot (one year ago!). Gigabyte H77M-D3H with ASUS XONAR DGX - Sound Cards - Components

    Any ideas please?

      I'll spit this out here, worth a shot anyways.

      With the 640L removed, in the BIOS set "Init Display First" to PEG instead of Auto, reinsert card and test.

        Thanks guys,

        @wazza300 Yes and Yes

        @wardog - I have tried that with and without the card removed (should it make a difference?) but the PEG and PCI settings don't stick, they always get put back to AUTO on reboot. Only the IGFX setting sticks. However the Init Display First setting doesn't seem to make any difference to the problem unfortunately.

        Any more ideas?

          Before I ask what you use there for graphics, please read #1 in my Sig and list out the components you're using there. That keeps us from going back and forth one q and one a at a time.

            Re: H77M-D3H won't boot with a SATA card in the PCIe x4 slot

            Well to clarify, I tested this with 3 identical motherboards in 3 different systems and got the same result. I think that makes it a motherboard issue, not a system issue?

            All systems were using onboard graphics so in 1 of the systems I put a graphics card in the x16 slot to see if that made a difference with the SATA card working in the x4 slot, but no joy.

            Here is someone else having a similar issue with the same SATA card in a different Gigabyte board SATA Controller Card Suggestions - Page 3 - Overclockers Australia Forums
