  • @Bios bricked my motherboard, what do I do now?

So, I know now never to use @bios but I didn't know that at the time.

Simply put, I ran @bios and now my PC won't boot. It shows the Gigabyte Splash screen then hangs on a black screen forever. This happens whether I let it boot normally or press any of the F keys (F1, F8, F12 etc) as well as Delete and End.

The motherboard is a GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 3.0). I tried clearing the cmos both with jumpers and the battery method to no avail, as holding the power button down to force a DualBios restore but that didn't seem to work unless I am doing it wrong.

Any help would be appreciated as this is a replacement for a ASRock motherboard that was DOA and I don't have enough money to buy a 3rd replacement while I wait for RMA Refunds.

turn on psu power switch, hold finger over psu power switch, then turn on pc at front panel power button, then as soon as you hear the fans spin turn off the switch at the psu

do this atleast three or four times, then let the pc bootup normally,if successful youll see a message saying recovering from backup bios, let it do its thing then flash the bios with latest bios using a memory stick and from within the bios/qflash DONT flash the bios from within windows

I took the ram out my old PC and gave it a shot. No change. I Tried the whole PSU flipping thing several times to no avail. Is there a specific trick or timing? Why isn't there just a dern button. :(

it should evoke the backup bios to kick in

have you tried a long cmos clear by removing the motherboard battery for 30 minutes, put back in and try?

I tried leaving the battery out for about 12 hours. I read that Alt or Control F12 can cause the backup bios to trigger. Is it possible someone could test and tell me which one it is, as I suspect that the USB keyboard might not be getting signals though to access QFlash.

Re: @Bios bricked my motherboard, what do I do now?

              Do this, exactly...

              1. Shut off the power supply using the switch on the back of the PSU, wait 10-15 seconds.
              2. Press and hold the case Power On switch, then while still holding turn on the power supply from the switch on the rear.
              3. Still holding the case power on switch, the board will start, once it does release the case power on switch and shut off the power supply via the switch on the rear of the unit. (Do the latter two parts as quickly as you can once the board starts)
              4. The board will shut down.
              5. Turn the power supply back on using the switch on the rear of the unit.
              6. Turn on the motherboard by pressing the case power on button.

Once the board starts this time you should see the Gigabyte splash screen, or POST page, then the Auto-Recovery from Dual BIOS will kick in. You will see a checksum error, and then recovery from BACKUP BIOS will begin. Once it is done reboot your machine and enter the BIOS and load optimized defaults then save/apply/reboot back to BIOS.

Now you are done, and will be using whatever BIOS was in your BACKUP BIOS, From there you can attempt whatever you were previously trying, or update your BIOS to the latest version.

Try uninstalling the Audio Driver, restarting, running Driver Fusion to remove anything left over from Realtek Sound, restarting, downloading and installing the latest driver 32-bit or 64-bit, restarting, and see if that fixes it.

Is the audio enabled in the BIOS? Selected as the default audio output in the Control Panel Sound? Front panel audio plug installed correctly? Speakers connected to the green output plug in? Settings set up correctly in the HD Audio Manager for 2 speakers? Back panel muted for HD Audio front case plug output?

Try downloading this BIOS, format a USB stick to FAT32, put the BIOS on it, boot in to your BIOS, enter QFlash (F8, I think), flash the BIOS from your USB stick, go back in to the BIOS, load Optimized Defaults, Save and Exit, go back in to the BIOS, and set it up. I can't think of anything else to help, except maybe clearing your CMOS.
