  • What is the real wattage of the CPU? GA-Z68AP-D3

I have a Z68AP-D3 and want to know if the wattage in DES 2 is to be trusted as Core Temp is reporting differently?

its hard to say for sure, both are probably correct but take the readings from different sensors? idk

Well they both say 50-60W on load and core temp over-reads the CPU usage so..... Idk.

Could a CPU actually use less than 1w and still produce 20oC+ heat?

Try HWiNFO64, it can display CPU Package Power, IA (compute) Cores Power, and GT (graphics) Cores Power.

        HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download

Haswell processors can use less than a Watt and be at or a few degrees C above ambient. The dies are very small, so heat up quickly. Even with C6 and C7 states active, at no time is the entire CPU turned off.

IMO, the Core Temp reading is too high, and the GigaByte reading is a bit low. But we have no idea what each is measuring, they are likely quite different.
