  • G1 Assassin2 SandyBridge-E vs IvyBridge-E Some Bench Marks

    So,

I decided I wanted a motherboard GPU combo that supported PCIE 3.0 without having to force it, or potentially deal with some instability.

For giggles I replaced the Sand Bridge-E with an IVY Bridge-E CPU after installing the G1Assassin2 Modded 12w BIOS.

I ran some simple bench marks before and after the swap; PCMark 7, 3D Mark 11, and Bioshock Infinite's Benchmark Tool.

What's interesting is that while the Ivy Bridge renders graphics faster as a system as a whole, it's not truly fast than the Sandy Bridge CPU.

So, with BioShock, specifically, we see that because of the PCIE 3.0 being available, the minimum frame rate goes up for the native resolution I'm using [2560 x 1600 ]

Interestingly, while the overall stats are lower on the i7-4930K, the frame rates make a HUGE visable difference in the benchmark; you can actually see the system whipping through the screens, as opposed to pause and jerk a fair amount on the i7-3930K.

Neither of the CPUs or anything in the system is overclocked.... and the RAM is running a 1600.

Does GPU-z show that your video card is running with pci-e 3.0 mode?
I think that Nvidia only has two video card models that support pci-e 3.0 with X79 motherboards.

Yep, that the was the difference... I ran GPU-Z after noting that many of the individual tests were slower. Thet became clear I should check PCIE bus speed, as it didn't make sense otherwise.

if I did not have a C1 stepping of the SB-E, I would have just turned on PCIE using the NVidia tool. (It appears the the early revision of SB-E had a compatibly issue, but later ones will work without stability issues.)

Can you tell what the intel network driver is for?, how is it used, sorry I know its not part of benchmarking, would really like to know, as im debating whether top get the cpu, or get the new g1assasin3 first.
