G1.Sniper 3+Windows 8.1+Fantec QB-35US3 problem

Since upgrading my Windows 8 to 8.1 from the Windows Store, my Fantec QB-35US3 (connected via USB3) is randomly disconnecting (going into standby?) and reconnecting. This is causing read and write errors. Did something change with USB3 and/or power control in Windows 8.1? Does someone have any idea what could be causing the problems?
