Constant BSOD with GCACHEL2_ERR_ERR

Minidumps are also at BSOD BugCheck 124 GCACHEL2_ERR_ERR every week or so - Windows 7 Help Forums

Processor: INTEL I7-4770K
Mobo: Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H
Video: EVGA NVIDIA GTX 770
PSU: COOLERMASTER SILENT PRO HYBRID 1300 WATTS

Do you think this might be a motherboard issue or an L2 cache cpu issue? The Proc and Bank vary, but it is always a GCACHEL2_ERR_ERR. I can reproduce the BSOD at will running Intel Burn Test on Maximum (usually 2 or 3 cycles):

need more cpu voltage or one level higher loadline calibration

EDIT: could also need a few clicks more cpu memory controller voltage esp with 16gb or more memory

Wazza, thanks for your response.

I haven't tried increasing voltages I've got the BIOS set to optimized defaults and the only changes I've made are disabling onboard video and sound.

I'm frustrated, I feel like the system should operate fine at optimized defaults but I guess I can go ahead and start trying to tweak voltages manually.

sometimes it needs tweaking even at stock

list your pc components,and make sure to flash to latest bios if you havn't already,im not too hot on haswell but 124 error is cpu voltage not enough or memory controller voltage not enough

also enable x.m.p memory profile if your memory supports it

I've tried increasing voltage and loadline calibration, still the same result. Increased DRAM voltage step by step as well (tested separately)

Even at 3.5ghz with 1.35 vcore it still bluescreened with GCACHEL2_ERR_ERR. Temperatures were fine (max mid 70s running maximum Intel Burn Test).

Any other ideas? I'm still leaning towards a bad CPU.

checked cpu socket for any bent pins? take care not to damage any whilst looking

Defective CPU, I've seen this quite a bit with Haswell. I had this same issue with my 4670K. I RMAd that sucker and my replacement hasn't given me any BSODs

Yeah I built my new rig about a month ago, and was battling the same issue OP is. I had a hard time thinking the CPU is defective since it's just rare to have a faulty processor.

There is a small chance this is from a bad VRM on the motherboard, but the most sensitive VRM is integrated with Haswell, so it's almost impossible that this is a motherboard issue.
