  • GA-Z77X-UP4-TH which PSU to use?

    Hello,

I tried to build gaming PC with Gigabyte-GA-Z77MX-D3H TH (rev. 1.0)
I'm using CoolerMaster Thunder 600V PSU

There is no any response from MotherBoard no any sign of power nor anything on Monitor
Suspect that I should use different PSU that comes with EPS12V specifications?
I have tried removing all peripherals and connect MB to PSU but no response

Pls help as I'm new to this forum

    My peripherals are below
    - Gigabyte Intel Z77 Dual Thunderbolt ATX Motherboard (GA-Z77X-UP4-TH)
    - Intel Core i5-3470 Quad-Core Processor 3.2 GHz
    - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800)
    - MyDigitalSSD 50mm Bullet Proof 120 GB mSATA SD

    Thank you,
    ~Vijay

Re: GA-Z77X-UP4-TH which PSU to use?

XFX brand is not available in India :(
If someone conform that this board require PSU that has specification "EPS12V"
then I can find some alternet brand which can meet said specifications

BTW the current PSU is not "EPS12V"

      Thanks any way

Re: GA-Z77X-UP4-TH which PSU to use?

            Newer power supplies will often quote ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.93 compatibility.
EPS12V often refers to the 8-pin power supply cable that connects to the motherboard.
Some power supplies will sometimes have two 4-pin ATX_12V power cables instead of one EPS12V cable.
Some lower powered power supplies might not include a second 4-pin ATX12V cable and might not include a single 8-pin EPS12V connector.
Antec, Corsair and Seasonic power supplies should meet all current requirements for Ivy Bridge and earlier systems.
My preference is to use Seasonic power supplies or other brands where Seasonic is the ODM or OEM supplier.

See Power supply unit (computer) - Wikipedi for more information.

Thanks a ton... this is something new knowledge for me,
the PSU that I'm using do compatible with ATX 12V v 2.3 Cooler Master: Thunder 600W
              and has two 4-pin ATX_12V

but no luck on power ON. I think my mobo has some factory prob hence nothing is getting up
I will try to replace with new one

              Thanks

Re: GA-Z77X-UP4-TH which PSU to use?

                You're welcome.

Can you test with another power supply?
Are you sure that the power supply on/off switch on the back of the psu is in the ON position?
How old is your power supply?
I couldn't find any reviews for your psu, but I found out that it does not have an 80-Plus rating, but this might be common for power supplies in India.
I like many Cooler Master products, but their power supplies seldom get high ratings from the best psu review sites, such as JonnyGuru, HardOCP, HardwareSecrets, PCPER, BenchmarkReviews and TechPowerUp.

Your power supply is the foundation of your system and you should use the best quality psu that you can afford.
There are many cheapy power supplies that don't supply clean and stable power to your system.
I prefer Seasonic, Antec, and Corsair power supplies.
Seasonic makes some power supply models for other manufacturers.
You won't go wrong if you buy a model that is highly recommended from the review sites that I listed.

I always build and test a new system with the motherboard on a cardboard box beside the computer case.
Sometimes there will be a problem with the motherboard installed in the computer case.
Test your system using a minimal hardware setup, see http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post301218, post #2 for more information.

I've seen a few occasions where a new system would not boot when:
                • there was a short circuit with the motherboard installed in the computer case
                • the computer case's RESET switch was shorted in the ON position
                • the front panel usb 3.0 cable prevented the computer from starting

Carefully inspect all motherboard slots for debris or signs of damage.
Make sure that all hardware is fully seated and the cpu is properly installed and that there are no bent pins in the cpu socket.
Double check that all connected wires or cables are fully seated.
The ON/OFF power switch for your computer case might be faulty and you can try to manually start your system by carefully connecting the two front panel pins that are normally used to connect the ON/OFF cable from the computer case to the motherboard.
