  • Disabling CPU throttling in BIOS - Z68X

For audio purposes, I've disabled CPU throtlling in Win 8 and would like to do the same in the BIOS. Looking at the power management section of the Z77X manual for UEFI, is it the ErP setting - enable? Otherwise, what should I do or where should I be looking? Other than power usage, is there any downside to this? Thanks,

Re: Disabling CPU throttling in BIOS - Z68X

just disable intel speedstep in the bios

cpu will run full voltage and speed = no cpu speed/voltage throttling at idle

are you using easytune software? try closing that if your hearing audio crackle

I see your using usb powered speakers, you might be getting emi leakage through the usb ports, thought about testing with rear panel audio speakers?

Re: Disabling CPU throttling in BIOS - Z68X

Thanks. Other than using more electricity, what effects will disabling have?

I don't believe EasyTune is compatible with UEFI. Audio dropouts while playing CDs and (maybe) music files and CDs has been the main issue. Pops occasionally when closing a website, including one time it shut down one Dac I was testing. Much of this seems to be a problem with Win 8, as I read it. Disabling cpu throttling is apparently one way to combat it, tho I'm wondering about the downsides. It only showed up when I switched from cheap speakers off the audio port to Dac and powered speakers taking either audio or audio and power off USB. Not sure about USB ports or what I would do about them, in case that's it.
