I upgraded the BIOS on my GA-Z77X-UD5H MB to F15o and now when I get around to playing with OC'ing the 3770K on the new BIOS the CPU is stuck at 39 no matter what I put in CPU clock ratio! Is there a problem with 15o or is it me?! I had the system running stable at 45 on BIOS Version F14?! I tried resetting to the Optimized Defaults but that had no effect. I know I did the CMOS reset routine when I installed F15o. The system has been running for months on the new BIOS with no apparent issues - except the "locked CPU" issue I just stumbled into. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

have you tried reflashing with the same bios? the z77 bios chips seem to be very temperamental in holding/saving the settingsGigabyte z77x UP4-TH F11c Modded Bios

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
No, I did not try reflashing but I did a clear CMOS and that had no effect. I switched to the backup BIOS (F7) and had the same problem - the CPU is "locked" at 35/39. So it ain't the F15o BIOS. Reflashing F15o would not effect the backup BIOS?
In desperation I installed ET6 and hit the Quick Boost to Level 1. That worked but when I went into the BIOS to manually adjust the CPU multiplier it had no effect. In fact, loading the Optimized Defaults would not make the ET6 Quick Boost Level 1 settings go away - I had to do a clear CMOS and reload the Optimized Defaults to get back to default settings. We've had multiple power outages in the last week and I am beginning to wonder if it screwed up the system even though I had it connected to a UPS which should have protected it. I have several other computers in the house and they seem to be ok.
Totally confused!

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
Flashed F14 to the Backup BIOS, cleared CMOS and loaded Optimized Defaults - same result - CPU is locked at 35/39. Changing the CPU Clock Ratio to 42 has no effect even though is shows in the Advanced BIOS display and the Graphical BIOS display as 42. The word is not getting to the CPU!?

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
I see this from time to time....but usually reflashing the bios works for me.
There has been a rare time when flashing both bios to the same version has helped.
Not really sure what is up with the later beta bios.....after months of running F15r I suddenly had no output from my video cards until I cleared CMOS. It seems to be possibly be related to Gen III video card settings in the bios......I finally went back to F14 final for now. Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
Thanks for the suggestion - I think! I turned off Turbo Boost in F15o and it had no effect. I turn Turbo Boost off in F14 (backup BIOS) and it seemed to have no effect. I rebooted into F14 and all is well - it changed the multiplier and picked up the Profile 1 settings for the memory. Strange things going on since I know I was running stable several months ago at 45 and Turbo Boost was set to AUTO on F14.
Just in case, yes I tried rebooting in F15o and it was still wrong.Last edited by Ken429; 04-22-2013, 09:41 AM.

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
The board seem to be having a bit of a fit, and I have had moments like this as well. What you could try doing, f you haven't already, is unplug the PSU and pull the COMS battery and let the board sit for 20 minutes. Recently I had a similar issue where I couldn't get my memory to overclock to 2400MHz when it had done it for the previous 4 months with no issues. letting the board sit without power seemed to help, now Im at 2800Mhz on the ram.

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
theres something seriously amiss if its locked or stuck at 39 multi
ive never had to touch the turbo ratios on any z68/77 board, they are fine on auto and just raise the cpu multi,i have suffered a few bios settings not saving or sticking and to fix that you have to cmos clear or flash the bios again or bothGigabyte z77x UP4-TH F11c Modded Bios

I've got two UD5H boards since they hit the shelves, and found nothing either a CMOS clear or BIOS reflash wouldn't fix for the most part. I've never touched the Turbo's ever and both machines run at x45 multi 24/7.
Although all the BIOS have their little quirks, F14 final has been the most stable overall for me with F15r beta pretty close. But some of that will depend on your particular components/periphereals.
I would try clearing CMOS again, then reflashing one of the BIOS to F14 and copy it to the other.
Alt + F12 to copy main to backup
Ctrl + F12 to copy backup to main
If that doesn't fix it then it's beyond what I can think of right now.Maximus 8 Hero/6700K @ 4.8/4x4GB LPX @ 3200 15-17-17-36 CR1

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?
Just an update on my trials and tribulations:
1. I did clear CMOS several times and I did reflash the F14 and F15o BIOS's and it had no effect.
2. Disabling the Turbo Boost option DID solve the immediate problem at least in F14 NOT F15o.
3. Removing the CMOS battery for 20 minutes SOLVED my problem - at least for now. Turbo Boost is back to AUTO and I'm running F14.
4. I have not tried F15o yet but I'm pretty sure it will be ok too.
5. Since I'm running F14 in the backup BIOS I'll do the Ctrl + F12 routine and stick with F14 until ....
Since this all started after a day of several power failures I have to believe something got messed up in the CMOS that the Clear CMOS button did not fix?!
Thanks all, I appreciate the help I get on this Forum.
