Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?

Wouldn't surprise me if the power failures helped muck things up. I'm a big believer in having a UPS if you can afford one....even a small one to help with those little "blips" like we get where I live all the time.

you might need a really long cmos/battery removal, overnight is the best option and then see what happens

        boondocks,

I have three APC UPS 1500 and one of them was hooked up to the machine in question...and...the machine was shutdown...but then W8...never completely shuts down.

        wazza300,

If 20+ minutes fixed the issue why suggest 24 hours?

I don't know but ive seen it need overnight a few times since x58,its worth a try, then take it from there, once the battery is out hold in the front panel power switch to drain the board of all stored power

Did you check your CPU or bent pins in socket.

When doing an extended CMOS clear, I also unplug the psu cable from the back of the power supply (or the wall outlet) when I remove the CMOS battery.

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?

A little off the subject but I have another strange thing going when I OC (F14) and change several of the Advanced Voltage Settings the "CPU/PCIe Base Clock" goes away. I never noticed this and it may be normal. When I change the CPU Clock Ratio to 42 and leave everything else "Auto" all is well and the system is stable and the "CPU/PCIe Base Clock" setting is available. However when I change the following it disappears:

                CPU Clock Ratio - 45
PWM Phase Control - eXm Perf
                Vcore Voltage Response - Fast
CPU Vtt Loadline Calibration - High
                CPU Vcore - Normal
                Dynamic Vcore (DVID) - +0.010

The system is relatively stable at these settings and will run IBT (10 passes) successfully and run Prime95 for 3+ hours (I stopped it). I was getting brave and going to increase the Base Clock a notch or two but it was gone! Changing the CPU Ratio from 42 to 45 did not cause the problem it happens when the Voltage stuff is modified. Any ideas and what the #$%% I've stumbled into this time would be appreciated.

That is just really weird, I have never seen that before.
If you haven't flashed both bios with the same version, I would do so now and see if your problem goes away.

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?

                      Just an update:
Did the remove power cable, remove CMOS battery, hold power button routine.
Let system sit for 2 hours.
Installed CMOS battery and plugged power cable back into P/S.
Downloaded F15q from Gigabyte site and copied to a Flash drive on a different system.
Inserted USB Flash drive in a USB2 port on problem system - had used a USB3 port in the past for what that's worth.
                      Flashed F15q over F15o.
                      Loaded Optimized Defaults.
Changed the defaults one at a time to see when Base Clock Option would go away - it didn't!
Set the Base Clock to 100 instead of Auto.
Go figure - did F15q fix something or is the USB3 port I used in the past not ready for prime time?

I suspect it might be the F_USB30_1 port/driver that might be the issue since I have experienced all kinds of strange happenings when using USB3 stuff on this port but I always blamed it on the external hard drive and/or the USB3.0 Flash drive. We'll see how long I remain happy with the current setup. I'll probably go back and re-flash F14 to the backup BIOS (using a USB 2.0 port) and see what happens.

Re: 3770K seems to be Locked at 39?

I use both USB30_1 & USB30_2 for my front case ports and they both behave. Those are both Intel ports, I believe, the rest are derived from the Via hub.

My best guess is your bios got corrupted. That is why I suggested starting with F14 and flashing both bios before moving on, but evidently your cmos clear/reflash did the trick.
Of all the beta's after F14, F15r seems to work the best for me. I use F15r on one board but F14 on my daily rig and it causes me less headaches when overclocking.
I think all the recent beta's are memory compatibility related to some extent, some work fine for some people and some don't.

You may be right about the corrupted BIOS. I now have F15q as the main BIOS and F14 as the backup BIOS. Both were re-flashed using a USB 2.0 port and both seem to be OK. I can change settings and OC both BIOS's and they work as advertised. I got F14 at 42 and F15q at 45, both accept a Base Clock of 100 instead of Auto.

Now for the USB 3.0 issues. I have my USB 3 case ports(2) connected to F_USB30_1. The drivers I have in W8 are:

The Intel driver is pretty old and I suspect there is a new one for W8 somewhere. The one I tried from Tweaktown and the Intel site said my system would not accept it or was not compatible or something like that. I'm slow, so if someone can point me to the latest greatest Intel USB3.0 W8 driver for this board I would be grateful. In the meantime I'll stay away from using USB 3.0 ports - probably unwarranted but better safe than sorry at this point.

My understanding is Win 8 doesn't need any additional USB 3.0 drivers.....but I don't run it so can't say from personal experience. Might want to check around on that.

Q-Flash is the more secure way to flash BIOS.
