Unable to run i7-2700K stable over 4.5GHz on Z68XP-UD4

Hello,

I have lost so much hair in past week I can't express.
I upgraded from i5-2500K to i7-2700K hoping to be able to over clock higher but noo. I tried PLL from 1.7-1.9, core voltage from 1.35-1.4 nothing sticks. Every single
attempt was failture. And got to mention this same issue was happening to me on i5-2500K. I wouldn't post this topic if I haven't oced I5-2500K with GA-Z77-D3H on 5GHz!!!

I can't believe motherboard as expensive as Z68XP-UD4 (Costed me 220 euro back in may 2012) is giving me such headaches.
I even tried with UEFI bios U1G (U1L doesn't OC at all rofl and random reboots all the time) and with F6 bios (Tried to download F7A from forum but link dead =/).
Don't get me wrong, I got to boot etc, but after running IBT or Prime95 for some time it was unstable. It doesn't look like voltage issue just some weird thing... Like CPU limit but not?
I don't know, Guess I'm not experienced enough in OCing.

I hope you understand my frustration.
Any help appreciated!

P.S.: My cooler is bit bad for high ocs but I'm ready to get new one if I would be able to get some stable clocks.
P.P.S.: Current stable (same as my i5 before) is Core Voltage: 1.344 @ 4.5GHz PLL on 1.8. (tested 12h Prime95)

you tend to need a big jump in cpu v for anything over 4.5ghz unless you have a good cpu,im using the same on an asus board 1.35v for 4.5ghz anything higher is either too hot or too much voltage or both,pll youd be fine on auto or maybe 1.65v

I have the same cooler also with my z68 system,its voltages that increases temps

I can recommend some coollaboratory liquid pro paste(well its actually liquid metal) that should knock a good 5-10c off over any thermal paste,other than that you simply need to settle for a lower overclock and lower cpu voltage

ive got my 2600k at 4.6ghz now with 1.38v

the noctua is the best paste out of those imo

yeah theres always a variation across the core temps,if you can get some liquid pro,you would see even better temps but it looks ok now

5ghz with 1.38v is very rare,you'd need a golden cpu for that

I have a rule to stay below 1.4v and 80c,some go above but me personally I don't like to

Golden Chip I agree. I just got mine to 5GHz finally (after taking 1 hour of boot loops) 1.488v required (way too much for my taste as well) but temps stay bellow 80 with prime which is amazing.
Anyway I'm sick of boot loops every morning to decided to buy new motherboard. Friend very much recommended asrock so I've ordered a Asrock extreme6 motherboard. Will see how it goes but this gigabyte issues I'm experiencing are over. I'm really now totally off gigabyte and never buying it again. Used to be big fan (got 11 motherboards in last 5 years) but with this z68 series I'm giving up. Too much issues, constant boot loops, no over clocking resets anymore as they used to be, just boot loops all the time.

boot loops are usually down to memory settings,or not flashing both chips with the same bios version,i think its alt and f12 at gigabyte splash screen on z68

But system runs stable for 24 hours, why would boot loop occur after shutting it down? I've checked what you've wrote Memory voltage/Speeds are ok bios is flashed same on both bioses. But problem:
Once boot loop starts and some times i boot into backup bios I can see my CPU "base" voltage is 1.2.something while on Primary bios base is 1.36.something how is that possible? that could defiantly be the cause for my boot loops since CPU doesn't get the power required for 4.7GHz.

you've flash both chips using alt and f12? press them fast and repeatedly at the splash screen

I cant think of what else it can be

I have yes but before I started overclocking, should I flash them now once I have overclocked CPU?
