  • Gigabyte Z77M-D3H (16GB RAM and NB Heatsink issues)

    Hi all,

    I was wondering if someone could shed some light on these 2 issues for me ;

    1) I'm running 8GB (2x4GB) 1333Mhz RAM fine with no problems, no crashes, Prime95 stable etc. I got another 2x4GB RAM today, same stuff, all brand new. PC booted fine first time, just came back to use it and it loops/restarts on just after the POST screen. I've tried each pair of RAM in each pair of slots and this doesn't cause any problems.

    Any suggestions?

    2) The NB/SB heatsink (Don't know which one it is) is REALLY, REALLY hot to touch. I can only leave my fingers on this for about 2-3 seconds. At the moment, I've not finished building it yet so the case is off. I'm doing nothing so the PC is pretty much idle.

    Should this be like this?

    Thanks for any help given,

    Liam

      Thanks for the reply.

That diode is reading 64 degrees! I don't have any fans on my PC at the moment, my CPU has a fan-less heatsink on it but surely it shouldn't be this hot? PC is idle doing nothing but browsing the Internet!

its probably down to you using no case fans and/or a small case,i know the x58 boards ran hot 60-70c was the norm

not sure on the newer z68/77 but 64c is fine, keep your eye on it depending on what you do ect gaming/movies, see how hot it gets

the amount of ram might affect it also,im only running 8gb vs your 16gb

Will do mate, thanks again. It'll run a lot cooler when I build my case I think. I can install a fan that blows directly over that heatsink so should be cool.

My CPU temps are a little erratic - flicking from 28-32 - is this also ok? I might need to make sure my heatsink is secure. It's one you install using 4 springs so I guess the tension has to be equal etc.

Re: Gigabyte Z77M-D3H (16GB RAM and NB Heatsink issues)

does it come with a backplate? some will only screw down so far as not to overtighten ect

cpu temps are normal, they jump up fast and up and down a lot, mine do the same depending on what im doing, and just at idle

Re: Gigabyte Z77M-D3H (16GB RAM and NB Heatsink issues)

Yes it does mate. My board already had a backplate on it holding the CPU bracket in place so I just put the heatink backplate over that and installed it as per instructions. I ran Prime95 and it reached 65 ish so not concerned too much. I'll have a proper inspection and make sure all the 4 springs are about level.

I think youll be fine once you get some case fans installed,an intake/exhaust

anything below 80c is fine imo for cpu core temps,id say the same for the nb/sb or pch

Re: Gigabyte Z77M-D3H (16GB RAM and NB Heatsink issues)

                  Liamsy
I often see advice to increase the Vtt from people who use 4 modules. (Usually they OC, but it may be your case too)
About modules: "same stuff, all brand new."
Same model(labeling) or just same brand and different package?

                  About temperature:
In our case "NB" now in CPU, "SB" is z77 chipset (PCH)
On Z77X-D3H PCH was ~40*C on my current Asrock ~50*C. (In my case, the temperature in the PC Case is nearly equal to ambient ~25*C)
Size of your Z77M-D3H PCH radiator is much smaller. Max temp is 110-115*C.
                  Get latest HWInfo http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html .
There will be a lot more info and its free.
And stasio spoke with the dev about correct GAs Z77 definition of temperatures.

"My board already had a backplate on it holding the CPU bracket in place so I just put the heatink backplate over that and installed it as per instructions."
Do you use the backplate from the other cooler?
What CPU cooler did you using?
As wazza300 saіd - its normal, cpu jumps from 7-64 watt in seconds (77w on stock cpu+igpu)
CPU throttling at 105*C, shutdown at 130*C.
Also some say there is a "mechanism", which at 90-100 degrees can reduce turbo frequency, and drop cpu voltage. I only know that the turbo frequency will depend on the wattage
                  About my cpu temp http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post452694
