  • X58-USB3 Memory issues

    Hi

I am hoping you can help me with this problem. I am running a intel i7 960 processor and recently I bought Kingston HyperX 4 Gb DDR3 1600. The problem I am having is that the memory doesn't seem to support XMP, so I was wondering if someone could give me the values so that I can enter them manually?

    Regards

    Re: X58-USB3 Memory issues

Kingston has several different HyperX 4GB DDR3 1600MHz memory kits.
Please post a link to your exact memory kit's specifications on the Kingston web site.
How many modules are you using?
It will help if you post a Cpu-z SPD screen-shot for your memory.

Sample Cpu-z SPD screen-shot on the web for Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3-1600 CAS 9:

      Re: X58-USB3 Memory issues

      Hi

Thanks for the reply. Here is the screenshot from CPU-Z as requested. What I have done in the mean time is to set the memory multiplier in the BIOS to 12. This seems to let the RAM run at 1600 mhz. However I don't know if this is a bad idea or not? I cannot seem to get the image upload thing right. I have 2x4Gb installed and i think the appropriate code for it is KHX1600C9D3B1/4G. How do I upload a image to this forum?

      Thanks again

To include an image in a post, in the Advanced editing option, click on the rectangular icon below and slightly to the right of the smiley icon.
You can upload one image from your computer or you can use the From URL option to link to an image on the web.
Using the URL option, uncheck the Retrieve remote file and reference locally option.
The URL option will let you include multiple images in a single post.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs portion of your
forum profile http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile.php?do=editprofile at the bottom of the
profile page or in your forum signature http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile....=editsignature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.

I added the hardware list you asked for, if it's not detailed enough please tell me what I left out.

              Re: X58-USB3 Memory issues

Is your memory model number KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX?
If yes, this is the datasheet for your memory: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/K...D3B1K2_8GX.pdf
and the sheet says "Each module kit has been tested to run at DDR3-1600 at a low latency timing of 9-9-9 at 1.65V."

              This datasheet http://media.kingston.com/pdfs/HyperX_Blu_US.pdf says
              "Compatible with P55, H67, P67, Z68, Z77and H61 Intel chipsets; as well as A75, A87, A88, A89, A78 and E35 AMD chipsets".

I don't know if your memory supports a 1T command rate.
You might need to set command rate = 2T.
I'm sending a private message to Wazza300 to suggest some bios tweaks for your X58 system.

                Re: X58-USB3 Memory issues

The 2 chips I have was bought separately and not as a pack so I doubt if that is the correct model number. I think that I have got 2xKHX1600C9D3B1/4G chips

See what Wazza has to say.
Hopefully your 2 x 4GB memory will play nice at 1600MHz with your x58 system.

You can try 9-9-9-28-1t timings and 1.66v dram voltage, set system performance enhance to standard and qpi/vtt to 1.315v

Ideally tri channel memory would be best but it should run dual channel

Thanks Wazza I will give it a shot. My girlfriend is gonna buy me another chip for valentines and thus the tri channel will be complete. Should I reset the memory multiplier to auto as I changed it to 12?
Again thanks for all the help. I'm new to memory timings

I would note what you have set now and then reset to defaults before you install the new RAM.
