  • GAZ77D3H constantly boots one drive..........

.......and not necessarily the one I want.

System is as in specs, but I have two hardisks for a dual boot. The main seagate 2TB on the SATA3 bottom connector, and my WD500GB on the first SATA2 connector (nearest the the SATA3 connectors). I also have my dvd writer on the last SATA2 port (5).

the 2TB has W7SP1x64 on it with office etc, but the WD500 has the same but without the office stuff, plus my audio programs.

When pressing the boot manager I can't see the WD500 to select, but that's what it boots into. Even if I go into the bios (which shows all drives) and I select the overrule boot by selecting 2TB, it still boots the WD500.

All this started when I installed a media reader (since removed) where it would offer me every option on the card reader, but still no two drives. Both OS were installed with other drive removed.

I just want to know why the drive I select in the override in the bios doesn't boot, and why in the boot manager it's not showing both hard drives.

Any help appreciated, as I'll soon be replacing the OS drives with two SSDs, and using the hard drives for storage.

    Thanks

      How do you mean ?

      On each drive ?

If I take the WD500gb out, the 2TB boots as normal.

I really don't think it's any of the drives.
Each one will boot if I remove the other

Yes, but the boot order only ever shows one disk option.

As I said, there is an overide boot selection option from which you can boot any selection. Both drives show there, but that's not working for me either.

I don't know if it has something to do with not having the older type bios selected ?

Do you get a Boot Manager screen when you boot up so you can select which OS you want to boot from? Read this... Dual Boot Windows 7 twice - Windows 7 Forums

Re: GAZ77D3H constantly boots one drive..........

I can get a boot menu, but it will still boot the other drive, not the selected one.

I'll try the "old" style bios and report back.

Re: GAZ77D3H constantly boots one drive..........

                        All sorted now.
Removed the media reader, and the other drive appears as a UEFI choice in the boot menu.

As soon as I got that going, I cloned the drives to two SAnDisk Extreme 256gb SSD.

Both SSDs are working great !

                        Thanks for everyones' help.
