    Re: GA-EP45-UD3P PWM Fan Control

I'm making some progress but still have erratic Speedfan behavior. I turned off fan control in the BIOS hoping that would solve the problem but it only made the fans run at 100% until Speedfan took over. As you can see from the attachments for some reason the fans crank up to almost 100% as soon as Core0's temperature increases. 74% of 1500 = 1110. So something else is going on. Any suggestions short of buy a manual controller would be appreciated.

I tried to attach additional screen shots showing that I changed the Desired and Warning temps to 35C and 70C but I guess one screen shot is all I get per post?

You can only attach one image per post when the picture is from your computer.

There's no limit if you use the Insert Image option where you include the link to a valid picture file format, such as JPG, PNG, etc.
When creating your post, the code generated for each picture will be similar to:
      prefix //www.MyPhotoURL.com/FolderName/MyPic01.jpg suffix
      prefix //www.MyPhotoURL.com/FolderName/MyPic02.jpg suffix
      prefix //www.MyPhotoURL.com/FolderName/MyPic03.jpg suffix

      where prefix = [ I M G ] [ U R L ] h t t p :
      and suffix = [ U R L ] [ / I M G ]
      without any extra spaces.

        profJim,
It has been awhile since I got into the multiple picture posting mode on TweakTown but I knew it could be done. I just needed a refresher course. Thanks for update. Now get busy and solve my Speedfan problem(s)!

          Re: GA-EP45-UD3P PWM Fan Control

You are sure that Pwm1 controller is the one that is linked to Cpu fan header ? I/O chip has 3 fan control channels but Gigabyte P45 boards only use two them for cpu and sysfan2 headers and the order of channels seems to be different on all boards. On my old P45 board I think it was actually Pwm3 that controlled cpu fan header, Pwm2 was connected to Sysfan2 header and Pwm1 was not connected.

            Re: GA-EP45-UD3P PWM Fan Control

Pwm1,2 and 3 are set to "Software Controlled". Here is what I get:

            Pwm1 @ 100%
            Pwm2 @ 100%
            Pwm3 @ 100%
            Fan speed ~1020 rpm

            Pwm1 @ 0%
            Pwm2 @ 100%
            Pwm3 @ 100%
            Fan speed 0 rpm

            Pwm1 @ 100%
            Pwm2 @ 0%
            Pwm3 @ 100%
            Fan speed ~1020 rpm

            Pwm1 @ 100%
            Pwm2 @ 100%
            Pwm3 @ 0%
            Fan speed ~680 rpm

The max fan speed has changed since I reinstalled the Noctua Low Noise Adapters since I took the screen shot above. I also enabled CPU Smartfan in the BIOS since could not stand the noise during a reboot and it seemed to have no effect on Smartfan.

Based on the above I'm totally confused!

              Re: GA-EP45-UD3P PWM Fan Control

You have that Cougar PWM fan connected to cpu fan header and have selected PWM mode in bios ? PWM fans should never stop, when you set control to 0 % it should run at minimum speed, according to Cougar specs about 800 rpm. If fan stops then it sounds like you are using voltage mode for fan controlling.

Not true in my case. The fans are connected to the 4-wire cpu header and the BIOS is set to PWM. Doesn't the 680 rpm bother you?

I just noticed something in previous message, you mentioned Noctua Low Noise Adapters. Are these 3-pin resistors ?

They are 4-pin adapters that come with their $30 PWM fans.

                      Re: GA-EP45-UD3P PWM Fan Control

Ok, so they probably just reduce the voltage a bit to lower operating range of their fans. I really have no idea what happens to other PWM fans when they get a reduced operating voltage but also receive PWM signal, maybe that's why your fans can stop with PWM control. Without them your fans should run at 800 rpm with 0 % control and at 1500 rpm with 100 % control. That is how all my pwm fans work.

                        Re: GA-EP45-UD3P PWM Fan Control

Here you go - no Noctua Noise Reducers. While I'm doing this the fans jumped from ~820 to ~1290 rpm and nothing is going on. If I go back to zero % the fans stop. If I go back to 65% the fans go back to ~1290 rpm! 65% should/was ~850 rpm. Nothing makes sense. I don't think Speedfan4.46 and my Gigabyte MB/CPU are meant get along very well. Although ET6 is slow at least it does what one would expect with the settings it is given.

I'm afraid I'll have to join your camp, it don't work for me either.

I can't understand what's going on with your fans, 1758 rpm reading in your picture should be impossible for a 1500 rpm Cougar fan. RPM reading on Fan4 is what I would expect from a 1500 rpm fan running at full speed.

I agree not much makes sense with Speedfan when trying to control PWM fans on this system! I'm sure it works for most people but I'm losing interest! The ~1400 rpm is the Corsair H50 pump. It's supposed to run full @ ~1400 rpm. I thought we were getting close but too many strange things happen when I let Speedfan get control. It always seems to reset and act normal after a reboot but then it starts doing strange things when the cpu heats up a few degrees. It is a great monitoring tool (for me) and I'll leave it at that. Thanks for the effort, I did learn enough to be dangerous about Speedfan but the system is cool and quiet with the Cougar fans and the Noctua Noise Reducers (Cougar fans running @ <1000 rpm's). I'm not using this machine it to break any OC records so I'll leave it alone for a few more years. Thanks again.
