  • GTX 670 - PCIe Cables?

    Hey everyone!

I've just recently built my first computer and my new GTX 670 Gigabyte card arrived today. After removing and installing the new card, I turned the computer on and the follow message appeared on my monitor: "Please power down and connect the PCIe Power Cable(s) for this graphics card"

I'm not sure what's going on. The card has two ports, a 6 and an 8 pin. My PSU (Corsair GS600) has two 6+2 pin connectors. I've made sure that the cables were fitted properly and securely, as well.

Can someone please help me out? Thanks! :D

Re: GTX 670 - PCIe Cables?

Did you use all 8 pins for the 8-pin connector?
Can you test with another video card?
Can you test with another power supply?
It's possible that your power supply is defective.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the PC Specs portion of your forum profile http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile.php?do=editprofile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature http://forums.tweaktown.com/profile....=editsignature.

Re: GTX 670 - PCIe Cables?

Yeah I've made sure the 8 pin has the 6+2 PCIe cable in there and fitted. I've been using an older card from a friend and it's working fine, but that doesn't actually use the PCIe cables it's that old, haha. Yeah, I suppose it could be a broken PSU. I'll bring it in tomorrow to get it tested.

      Thanks for the help! :D

It's possible that the psu is defective.
Be sure to bring your video card and have it tested too.
It sounds like your your motherboard is probably OK because your older video card works.

We don't know which motherboard you're using. If it has an additional pci-e x16 physical slot, you can test your GTX 670 in that slot also.
        Let us know the results.

Re: GTX 670 - PCIe Cables?

Yeah, I'm worried it's my PSU. But I've brought my videocard a long with me to work so I can stop by the store on the way home for them to test it out. If it's working, then it'll have to be the PSU, which I'll return tomorrow if that's the case.

I'm sort of hoping it's the PSU, since the 670 will be on another back order list that I'll have to wait another two weeks for, haha ...

Anyway, I'll let the forum know the results!

Re: GTX 670 - PCIe Cables?

I've seen very few Thermaltake reviews that were very good or better.

My preference is to buy Seasonic made power supplies.
Nearly all mid to upper level Antec, Corsair, Enermax and Seasonic power supplies are very good to excellent, as are some other brands/models.
Newer SuperFlower and many NZXT and XFX models are excellent.

If you need a new psu, some of the best psu review sites are Jonnyguru, HardwareSecrets, HardOCP, TechPowerup and PcPer.

Re: GTX 670 - PCIe Cables?

Please post updates. I suffered weeks trying to get my Gigabyte GTX670 to work without success. Problems were with crashes, not power, though.
