  • i5 2500K + z77d3h

    My configuration is
    GA-Z77-D3h
    i5 2500K (3.3GHz)
    ADATA 8G DDR3 1600 x 2 (16G)
    ADATA SATA3 SSD 60G
    Seagate 2T SATA3 HD
    LG CD ROM
    Running Win 7 Professional

    The problem is when I set the clock ratio to 40, i.e. overclocked to 4.GHz, the system can boot to Win7 and stress test was conducted overnight with Prime95 without any problem. However, when I try to reboot the system, the system will enter "Boot failure detected", I choose to enter BIOS and then exit without saving, the system can boot to Win7 normally. The "Boot failure detected" will appear for around rebooting the system normally 3 or 4 times.
    What I have tried:
    1. disable C1E, disable Turbo boost, disable CPU thermal monitor, etc...
    2. Use only one RAM and plug into different slot;
    3. Disconnect all peripherals except SSD;
    4 Disconnect all peripherals except CD-ROM;
    5. Changed Power Supply
    The same problem was also seen when I run the CPU at 3.3GHz (100x33) i.e. default setting but set the RAM to run at 1600MHz, i.e. set RAM multiplier to 16.

    One setting can have no problem is that just run the system with CMOS cleared. i.e. no overclocking with RAM running 1333MHz.

    I do believe that my hardware can be overclocked because if the system cannot be overclocked (due to heat or quality of CPU), it will have problem under stress test overnight. Therefore, I do think that this is related to BIOS setting/bug. Am I right?

    All you have changed is CPU ratio, no voltage changes? all still auto?

      Of course I have tried setting the voltage high (1.3v) but still fail. In ET6, the voltage never show exactly what I set, it always lower than my setting.

        Re: i5 2500K + z77d3h

        If voltage is not enough, how come I can boot to Win 7 successfully after selecting "ENTER BIOS" and exit without saving to boot again.

          But when you boot to windows is it wiOC settings or default.
          Do you mean only reboot does not work, and cold boot does?

            I haven't kept up with beta BIOS for that board but certainly some were having problems similar to that with the UD5H & 2600k at one point. I personally never had it but apparently some did until a few beta BIOS versions came and went.

            Also if EasyTune is not showing correct voltage you need to get the latest for 7 chipset series. Don't have the link handy right now but it's in one of the posts here. The one on the Gigabyte download page for your board may be wrong, it was for my board and on the disc unless they've changed it.

              I mean sometimes reboot and cold boot do not work. It will enter the screen attached in my previous post. If I select "Enter BIOS" and select exit without saving, the system can boot to Win7 with overclock. That is, I need one more step to bypass the failed screen manually and reboot, everything would be fine. I have never get failed screen for the next reboot. Is there any setting in the bios to skip that checking?

                I am not sure whether ET6 's reading is correct or not, sometimes it shows <1V. Even though I set the Vcore voltage to 1.3V and keep others as AUTO, ET6 can show <1.2xV. I download all the driver from the following link GIGABYTE -

                  One more question is that the multiplier shown in ET6 will drop to 16 or even 6 when the computer is idle. It will go up 34 when some program is running. Is it normal?

                    Yes perfectly normal when power saving features enabled, when not under load the CPU frequency and vcore throttle down to save power.

                      Should I try beta version F12 ? Or my motherboard is faulty? Any suggestion?

                            I would update to latest beta BIOS and see if that fixes your problem. Just throwing voltage at the cpu is not going to fix it. Like I said others have had this problem, it was said all testing before the boards were released was done with Ivy Bridge cpu's and they are still working on the BIOS to fix bugs with Sandy Bridge cpu's. Seems to be fixed for the UD5H boards but maybe not yet for D3H? I don't know. If updating to latest beta BIOS does not fix it try contacting Gigabyte and see what they say.
