  • GA-X58A-UD3R. Need to load optimized many times.

    Hello

    I have an i7 930 with a motherboard GA-X58A-UD3R with bios F7L

I have my Bios settings tweaked in order to use the best configuration for my high speed RAM memory. My BIOS settings are also customized for OC speed and functionality.
Everything works well. Memtest is OK. Stress testing is OK.

But sometimes my home suffers from frequent power cuts that affects my computer while running.
When I switch my computer on again I have a problem, it starts with the default BIOS settings. And it keeps that settings till I enter the BIOS and reload the optimized ones. Sometimes it even loses that saved good ones.

How can I avoid this problem?
How can I modify/hack my BIOS in order to have always my optimized settings and not resetting to the default factory ones?

    regards

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R. Need to load optimized many times.

copy your current bios inc oc settings to your desktop as a bios file with @bios,then flash using qflash if needed, never use @bios to flash with only to copy bios/settings to desktop

as for power cuts i would buy a ups Uninterruptible power supply - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia then when power cuts it will run off battery for upto an hour or longer or safely shut down pc if power loss

its the sudden power loss thats causing the mb to revert to stock bios settings

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R. Need to load optimized many times.

A good quality UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) will provide clean voltage regulation, surge protection, and will let your computer run for a short period of time before the UPS will automatically shut down your system when the remaining battery power is low. This should help prevent bios reset problems. Depending on your setup, you will probably need a 1000VA - 1500VA UPS that will let your system run for 10 minutes or more before it shuts down your system in an orderly fashion. CyberPower offers high quality units at a reasonable price. Avoid buying a cheapy UPS.

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R. Need to load optimized many times.

The attached picture shows my UPS status after I performed a manual test.
My system is at the windows desktop and is not running any programs.
I've configured my UPS to automatically shut down the system when there is only 5 minutes of battery power remaining.

The remaining system run time on battery power depends on which programs are running.
If you are gaming or running one or more demanding games or programs, the remaining battery run time will be much shorter.

You can also save your current settings to a BIOS profile, that way you don't have to re-enter them every time this happens, until you get a UPS. Why all the power losses anyway?

Here's how to save and load BIOS profiles, on the MAIN page of the BIOS press F11 to save a profile, and F12 to load a profile. When saving be sure you do not overwrite your first profile if you have more than one, so always cursor down before you name and save if you have more than one.

            Hello

Now I can't buy an UPS.
Anyway, is it normal that BIOS settings get lost because of power loss?

Power cuts are due ... now I leave in a very old house with more students and a lot of electric appliances.

I need to know how to modify the BIOS, in such a way that its new "default safe value" now is my desired optimal values.

you cant modify bios, you can save the overclock settings to a profile by pressing f11,and if power cut load settings by pressing f12,

sudden power loss will cause you to lose settings, turn pc off if not in use

The problem is that sometimes I even lose those "F11" stored values.

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R. Need to load optimized many times.

Is this loss of power just the power shutting off, or is it spiking and then dying, like a surge then it dies for a while? When it's down, how long is it down for?

You shouldn't loose saved profiles unless it's down for weeks, and even then you really shouldn't either. So it must be spikes coming through the line when it goes out, so you should get a surge protector at the very least.

It could just be a dead or dying CMOS battery too, but I'd still get something to protect you from surges and spikes. CMOS battery is VERY cheap, so you can order a new one easily to see if that is the issue, or grab one from some other board for testing for a while before buying a new one. Then you'll know, if it always keeps your saved profiles with the new battery, then the other battery may be bad. But if it is spikes or surges in the line before the power goes out, CMOS battery isn't going to matter as the spikes will clear the board (And may sometime fry it, so that is why protection is needed)

Surge protector is a lot cheaper than a UPS, so I'd suggest buying one of those as soon as you can if you don't have one already. Just get a decent quality power strip with surge/overvoltage protection, and that should stop the saved profiles from being cleared as long as you have a working CMOS battery.

                    Hello

It's an instant power cutoff at all the house.
                    Then I need an UPS?
Can't I change those default safe value?
Where are they stored?. Are there hardwired?

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R. Need to load optimized many times.

Well, I'd get a surge protector (Power strip w/ fuse) first as it's cheaper, this might be all you need (and a new CMOS battery if that is bad, please test with another, you can cut the power yourself for testing via PSU switch)

No, you can't edit the default values, and you should start with optimized not safe (Just saying since you mentioned safe). They are part of the BIOS itself, so stored in the BIOS chip and programming, you can't change them.
