  • GA-EP45-UD3P S1 Versus S3

Is there a way to get the GA-EP45-UD3P MB to make the Power Light blink in S3 Sleep Mode? I know the Manual says on Page 29 that S1 is the only setting that will cause the Power Light to blink when "sleeping". That does not make a lot of sense to me since S1 does not reduce the power consumption very much - all the fans keep running etc., etc. What am I missing - Who uses S1? S3 seems to be the default BIOS setting - Page 58 in the Manual. I have several ASUS MB's and they default to S3 AND cause the Power Light to blink in Sleep Mode. Does Gigabyte have a valid reason for this approach. I really like the blinking power light when the system is in the S3 state.

can you use dynamic energy saver software on that mb? it might let you enable blinking,it turns on off the mb leds on my board so it might be worth checking

Yeah, S1 sleep blinks the power LED while S3 sleep doesn't. Devices which support S1 sleep will power the fans down (video card, etc).
S3 blinking is really an extra function of the manufacturer...not sure why GB doesn't do it. Although it's not a requirement. In S3, the only thing supposed to be powered is the RAM and +5vsb (so the system can recognize keyboard input and reawaken).

BTW, don't knock Gigabyte because my Abit IC7 max3 doesn't LED blink in S3 sleep, either.
If anything, it's Asus adding an extra feature that isn't supposed to be part of S3...
