  • Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD5 that is in stores now is not really PCIe3 compatible why?

    Hi,
back in August, Gigabyte released a press release stating their entire 6 series of boards are ready to support Intel 22nm CPUs and PCI-E gen 3.0 with a BIOS update but this IS NOT TRUE!
as you can check here Gigabyte Z68XP-UD5 LGA 1155 Motherboard Review - Page 8 this is because for being really PCIe3 ready the board neeeds not only the BIOS but also the new revision of the board PCB 1.3 with new switches but all the Ud5 boards that are in stores now are 1.0!!

Gigabyte changed many others boards of series 6 to revision 1.3 but not this one.why?

There will be a new revision of the board or it's abandonware?... (UD7 is in the same situation...)

not 100% sure but i think it can handle one pci-e3 graphic card regarding pci-e3 speeds but anymore than that it needs the extra hardware for example switches and capacitors to handle it all, only the g1 sniper x68 and the newer x79 have propper pcie-3 support

Re: Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD5 that is in stores now is not really PCIe3 compatible why?

From what I have read and see in the pics of the board "maybe" it can handle only one PCIe3 card and with an x8 line when used with Ivy Bridge CPU's but this is so pretty much is useless with this limitation even with a single card...I don't think this can be considered "PCIe3 ready".PCIe3 doubles the bandwidth of PCIe2 but if the lines are not x16 but x8 is the same situation as before.
Gigabyte infact knows this and doesn't indicate the GA-Z68XP-UD5 or the GA-Z68X-UD7 as "PCIe3 ready" in their site specs.
But the question remains, why they published that "wrong" press release? There will be a new revision even of these two boards?

Regarding the boards there aren't only the Sniper or x79 but many others z68 from gigabyte that have PCIe3, for example the z68's with revision 1.3 (on the chart however because from what I can see none in the stores at the moment...)...but gigabyte didn't upgrade the UD5 or the UD7 to this revision of the board and left them at 1.0 revision that like I said doesn't have a real PCIe3 despite what they have said.
