Re: 2TB not detected on Gigabyte P35-S3G - Help!

Will a low level format fix the bad sectors? or just mark them as bad so they arent used?

I tried burning the WD software to a bootable cd, it booted up just found, detected all 3 of my WD drives, but when I tried to test the 2TB one, it said something like it wasnt supported. I dont understand that because I double checked it and I downloaded the correct one and it clearly has WD20EARS on the list.

I was able to run the windows version of the software from windows, which is how I came to the Too Many Bad Sectors conclusion. Still safe/effective to do it that way?

If running in ACHI mode doenst give me any real advantage I will probably just leave it off, seems to boot faster without it. What does the Native Mode option do? any advantages?

Re: 2TB not detected on Gigabyte P35-S3G - Help!

native mode is just for installing older os,like win2k ect, newer os's dont need it,i find it boots quicker with ahci enabled, you wont see any real world difference between ahci or ide but you would if you were using an ssd so its good to have it enabled for future upgrades, you can switch to ide or ahci whenever you want so its up to you

and yh it seemslike youve just picked up a faulty drive

Re: 2TB not detected on Gigabyte P35-S3G - Help!

From page 37 in your motherboard user manual:
SATA AHCI Mode (Intel ICH9 Southbridge)
Enables or disables AHCI for the SATA controllers integrated in the Intel ICH9 Southbridge.
Disabled Configures the SATA controllers to PATA mode. (Default)
        AHCI (Note)
Configures the SATA controllers to AHCI mode. Advanced Host Controller Interface
(AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the storage driver to enable
advanced Serial ATA features such as Native Command Queuing and hot plug
        .
For more information about AHCI, please visit Intel's website.

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode (Intel ICH9 Southbridge)
Specifies the operating mode of the integrated SATA controllers.
        Disabled
Allows the SATA controllers to operate in Legacy IDE mode.
In Legacy mode the SATA controllers use dedicated IRQs that cannot be shared
with other device. Set this option to Disabled if you wish to install operating
systems that do not support Native mode, e.g. Windows 9X/ME. (Default)
        Enabled
Allows the SATA controllers to operate in Native IDE mode.
Enable Native IDE mode if you wish to install operating systems that support
        Native mode, e.g. Windows XP/2000.
