seemslike a bios incompatibility issue with your 4870x2,as it works fine with your newer card, i think thers a pci-e controller built into sandybridge cpu's so maybe its having issues when cpu multiplier is raised? cant be 100% sure

              Re: Z68XP-UD4 graphics blackout problem

I am currently in mail-conversation both with Gigabyte support and with the company I bought the hardware from.

Right now I am using the lesser ATi HD 5459 and have the computer overclocked to 4,3 GHz and with my Corsair memory in XMP profile 1600 CL7 in a totally stable manner.
This is also proven by trying Prime95 for an hour.
              Just weird...
Why does my motherboard and processor don't like my ATi HD 4870X2???? Aaaaargh!

                  Re: Z68XP-UD4 graphics blackout problem

                  Ok!

                  This is what has transpired...

I eventually bought a new graphics card. A Sapphire HD6970 2Gb Dual fan was chosen as the GIGABYTE card was sold out.
I installed it and everything went smooth without ANY problems what so ever. No blackouts.

Then I finally got to it and put my HD4870x2 in a older HP-computer and that worked without ANY problems or blackouts!!!
But putting the newer and smaller HD5450 into the HP made it unable to even go into DOS/BIOS mode. It just hung there with the CPU-fan on full.

This has been a new experience to me as it seems that now days they make the hardware so that no older GPU will run on newer motherboards and no new GPU will run on older mohterboards and thus You are forced to buy both a new graphics card & motherboard.

I got sent to me a beta version of F6-BIOS from GIGABYTE, but it was a "No Go".

In hind sight, I think it was sad to realize that I was forced to buy a new graphics card just because I upgraded my motherboard and CPU.
                  NOT good!

Cheers guys and thanks for trying to help me out anyway!

So for all You guys wanting to upgrade Your hardware and keep Your fast and blasting old graphics card, watch out! You may end up being forced to buy a new graphics card in the end.
