  • Slow SSD Speeds on SATA3_0 (GA-P67A-UD3-B3)

    Hi All,

I'm having serious performance issues using SSD on SATA3_0 6Gbps port (White port) of GA-P67A-UD3-B3. My config is in my signature.

Using AHCI with 'Native IDE' mode selected, I'm averaging about 210MBytes/second Read and 140Mbytes/second Writes on OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD Drive under Windows 7 (64bit) SP1.

Here is what I have done so far:
    1. Updated motherboard to the latest BIOS (F7)
    2. Updated firmware of SSD drives to the latest version.
    3. Secure wiped the OCZ Windows SSD drive twice to start over (to avoid SSD garbage collection issues)

    Please help troubleshoot this.

    Thanks,
    Kris

(The performance is even worse on my custom Mac using Corsair Force 3 SSD drive)

shouldnt you turn off "native ide"? best to use atto disk bench program and dont run too many tests as it can degrade performance due to it being stressfull on your ssd

Tried the other option 'Legacy IDE' before and used AS-SSD, similar results.

Re: Slow SSD Speeds on SATA3_0 (GA-P67A-UD3-B3)

The OCZ ssd forum has very specific guidelines for properly benchmarking your drive.
SandForce drives should NOT be benchmarked using many gigabytes of data. Each of your tests used 4000MB.
Multiple benchmarks should not be run during a logon session.

Check out OCZ Technology Agility 3 240GB SSD Review :: TweakTown USA Edition for benchmark scores and be sure to read the conclusion that explains how asynchronous NAND drive performance suffers as free space decreases.
The link in http://forums.tweaktown.com/storage-...rformance.html confirms TweakTown's results and conclusion.

does using usb3 ect affect performance on sata3 if being used? i know it used to on the p55 boards not sure if its the same for p67?

I don't think they are affected by each other. I may have narrowed down the issue to SSD.

I ordered a GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 board to test and got similar results. Unfortunately, both of my SSDs (OCZ & Corsair) are Asynchronous NAND based.

What a scam this is.. to lose performance as free space decreases (even at 40%).

Don't even get me started on the Z68 board, it is a buggy PoS:
            - USB devices don't work in certain ports, in combination
            - Separate Marvel chip for two more SATA3 and USB 3.0 ports (Intel & Etron for the first two)
            - Unstable HD3000 performance
            - Intermittent lockups

I still haven't heard form Gigabyte support for P67, this will be my last board from them.

Re: Slow SSD Speeds on SATA3_0 (GA-P67A-UD3-B3)

              I understand your frustration.
We can probably help you get your system stable.
I suggest that you create a new thread that deals with getting your motherboard stable.

I'm pissed off at the way many ssd manufacturers do their best to hide information about which type of NAND is in each model. Their published benchmarks make it appear that the asynchronous NAND drive performance is very close to the more expensive synchronous drives. I don't have a problem with selling "economy" model ssd's, as long as they clearly state that these drives don't offer a similar level of performance when it comes to real world performance. Have you tried getting assistance from the OCZ or Corsair ssd forums?
If I had been suckered into buying an asynchronous drive, I'd be fuming and would contact the attorney general's office in the state where I live.
I've read way too many forum posts on the web and Newegg reviews where tech support from ALL motherboard manufacturers varies from useless to excellent.

You always get issues with any new mb/platform,it takes a while for the problems to be fixed with BIOS and driver released, its not just gigabyte either its all brands,if I were you I'd stick with the z68,if the igpu is unstable you probably need to add one two clicks more igpu core voltage, and try manually setting up ram

Re: Slow SSD Speeds on SATA3_0 (GA-P67A-UD3-B3)

Frankly, I think forums like these are a godsend to the ever-decreasing number of people still building machines, so thanks.

My next stop is the OCZ & Corsair forums but I feel this is a terrible waste of my time (money is secondary).

I don't know what I'd do without my trusty Macs. The only reason why I built this machine is the current non-SB Mac Pro was not an option.

I'll create a separate thread for the Z68 board.

                  Thanks,

                  Kris
