  • is EP35C-DS3R 2.1 with 8GB DDR3 possible?

    Hello,

I would like to know if anyone had a chance to test 4GB DDR3 stick into this motherboard.
The P35 chipset is limited to 8GB of memory but the motherboard is specified to run with 4GB of DDR3 according to Gigabyte website.
This is my current configuration and it runs fine.
I suppose that at the time the motherboard was released, there was no 4GB of memory stick available on the market, which is why it is "limited" to 2GB sticks.

I am planning to by Kingston HyperX 1600MHz memory with CL9 but I will not use it above 1333MHz, my current setting.

Thanks in advance for any answer ;)

    A web search using: EP35C-DS3R ddr3 8GB
shows several setups that ran OK with 8GB of DDR3 memory.
This doesn't mean that every 2x4GB memory kit will be successful.

You will probably need to tweak some of the bios voltage settings.
Your overall system performance with higher speed DDR3 memory probably won't give you noticeably better performance.
I've seen many P45 combination memory systems that had difficulty with system stability and DDR3 memory.
If your new memory doesn't work well, can you easily get a refund or swap the memory for a different brand/model?
Are you using a 64-bit operating system?

      Re: is EP35C-DS3R 2.1 with 8GB DDR3 possible?

Thanks, I am not especially looking for better performance.
I am not doing any overclocking, and I almost have the best cpu this board can accept.
My current memory is 4GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz (g.skill) and it has been running like a charm for the last 3 years.
For the future in case I upgrade cpu/mb, I will be able to keep this new memory instead of reuse the old which is limited to 1333MHz.
I have a laptop with 16GB and the system takes less time to reload closed applications compared to 4GB.
And yes, I use 64bit OS so it should not be an issue.

My question was more oriented towards users in this particular forum who might have tested such a configuration because there is a strong gigabyte community here.

Using the forum's advanced search feature, search with EP35C-DS3R in the Keywords box and select Search Titles Only and you might find others who have successfully used 8GB DDR3 setups. I just did a quick search and there are quite a few threads included in the results that list EP45-DS3R systems.

Let us know if you find any positive results.

          Re: is EP35C-DS3R 2.1 with 8GB DDR3 possible?

Thanks also but I did try the research before I posted.
I could not find anything but topics but DDR2 and 8GB.
I would not have posted otherwise.

The P45 chipset handles memory differently, it supports up to 16GB.
For the EP45C-DS3R, the manual claims 4GB DDR3 max whereas the EP45T-DS3R can handle 16GB DDR3.
Both where released more or less at the same time.
I guess this is just a story of manual writing date because there is no reason a m/b would support 4GB sticks and not the other.
I have read on success stories on ther forums but I would have appreciated a confirmation here.
I will post my own results when I can, in case other people are interested.

            Re: is EP35C-DS3R 2.1 with 8GB DDR3 possible?

It might be worthwhile for you to post in the TweakTown G.Skill forum and ask if G.Skill has tested any of their 8GB DDR3 memory kits with your motherboard. G.Skill - Matt W. is their official tech support person. You can check out G.SKILL-DDR3 Memory Products where they include a list of approved motherboards for each memory kit and you might find one of their older DDR3 kits might offer the best compatibility with your motherboard.

Let us know if you need any help with getting your system stable with your new memory.

Unfortunately, I have ordered Kingston memory for this upgrade, G.Skill was not available at my reseller.

My 8GB of DDR2 Kingston HyperX T1 memory works flawlessly in my P35-DS3L.
Hopefully your DDR3 memory will be fine.

Installed and boot OK in bios. 8GB shown.

                    hello to forum

I have the same motherboard with xeon e5430 and 64bit os.

I want to install 4+4GB ram.
Can you tell me if the Kingston works well or if you tried another brand/model?
