  • GA-P35-DS4 not handing 3TB Drives

I have a Q6600 CPU with the P35-DS4 motherboard. Just rebuilt the system with 5 3TB hard drives and guess what. Can't see in the bios config page on the initial hit ctrl-I to go into config screen of 746GB. I am on Intel Matrix Storage Manager ROM 7.5.0.1017 ICH9R wRaid5. Assuming the ROM version is the issue. Anyone know what is going on? I'm a bit mad right now as with the overclock this system is still cutting edge as far as speed which is all I care about right now. I couldn't find any mods that were for my system that included these and buying an after market controller with that many ports I might as well just build a new system.

It should be noted though that in non RAID mode the drives show as 3TB drives on the bios screen.

This board does not support the UEFI which means more than 2.2 TB of HDD is not supported on this board.

Gigabyte tech support says the newest Intel RAID ROM 10.6 can support the 3TB HDD in RAID mode, so i think you can contact Gugabyte directly for a new RAID ROM updated BIOS.

A web search using: 3tb hard drive faq
will provide information and requirements for using 3TB hard drives as a boot disk or data disk.
When used as a non-bootable data disk, there are possible issues with a 3TB data disk when you install the bare drive in an external enclosure.

Thanks for the thought. I have emailed support. If they do this I will be amazed Aas the board ain't new. If I could obtain the rom I would update the bios myself.

          Thanks.

Few days ago i have received a special BIOS 15C from Gigabyte, they says this BIOS is for your mobo P35-DS4 and it supports the 3TB HDD.
I've uploaded it to the website you can get it from this link: Upload Mirror - Pick your file host - Download - P35DS4.15C.rar

And this link is the screenshout for your reference tested by Gigabye: Upload Mirror - Pick your file host - Download - s1.jpg

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try and see what happens. With the different rev of boards out there not sure if the P35DS4 bios' are all the same. I heard back from Gigabyte and they said that my board was old and there wasn't a firmware that would support over 2TB hard drives available.

By the way, I can see 3TB all day with the drives in AHCI mode. Is your hard drive shown in the picture raid configured or AHCI mode which is where my problem starts.

Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes.

EDIT: I also noticed the firmware contains ICH8R rom not ICH9R. Is this bios legit? Or is there another P35-DS4 that starts with something other than GA? I'm game as I have dual bios but noticed this discrepancy.

                Hyper530,

My hats off to you. Not sure if I'm running ich8r rom on an ich9r raid but it works. Now I hate that 3TB drives are showing as 2.7 but better than 647 and better than spending $400 on a new raid card. Copying Windows Home Server to a USB stick to install now and have my one big share. Rep +1 if this forum supported it.

                Thanks a million.

By the way, not sure if this was compiled by you or someone else, but Gigabyte completely disowns the 15c bios.

@ Hyper530, jriker1: is this modded BIOS somewhere available ? I would also need to get 3TB support for my P35-DS4 rev2.1 board, but my tries to mod the BIOS myself were unsuccessfull :-( Thanks for any help. The link in the thread is now dead.

                    Regards,

Really now, I need to update Flash so that I can view a jpg or download a file?!!?

The way I see it, I wouldn't touch this download with a ten foot pole and I wouldn't trust anyone who uploads files to a site with this type of crapola.

In fairness to atheris, he might be using an ad blocker that doesn't let him see the bogus download options in the middle of the screen.
Things like this have happened before in the forum.

Does not work on my rev2.0

                              BUT:

I modded this bios with another intel otion rom (Intel-RSTe_RAID-ROM_v11.6.0.1702). now it works. Make sure to use (in Windows) Intel Driver 11.5.x and above!

                              tried another hoster.
Which hoster does not delete files fast nd does not require a login? Anyone who knows?
